EXERCISES

E1. A PMMC instrument is to be used with a half wave rectifier circuit as an ac

voltmeter. A meter movement of the PMMC has an internal resistance of 500 Ω
and requires 10 mA dc full scale deflection. Shunting resistor Rsh placed across
the movement has a value of 400 Ω . Diodes D1 and D2 have an average forward
resistance of 100 Ω and are assumed to have infinite reverse resistance in the
reverse direction.
1) Draw this circuit
2) For 30 V ac range, calculate the value of the multiplier and the voltmeter
sensitivity on ac range

E2. A PMMC instrument is to be used with a full wave rectifier circuit as an ac

voltmeter. The meter movement has an internal resistance of 750 Ω and required
1 mA for full scale deflection. The diodes each have a forward resistance of 100
Ω and infinite reverse resistance.
1) Draw this circuit
2) Calculate the series resistance required for full scale meter deflection
when 75 Vrms is applied to the meter terminals and the ohms per volt
rating of this ac voltmeter

E3. A Bridge is balanced at a frequency 1 kHz and has and has the following
constants:
Arm AB (z1) is C1 = 0.4 μF pure capacitance.
Arm BC (z2) is R2 = 900 Ω pure resistance.
Arm CD (z3) is series circuit between R3 and C3.
Arm DA (z4) is R4 = 800 Ω in parallel with C4 = 0.5 μF.
(1) Draw this bridge
(2) Derive the balance condition to obtain an equation to calculate component
constants of arm CD
(3) Find the R3 and C3 values
