Naturally what will you do when you͛d finished chewing gums as you are walking in
the park? Are you going to spit it out anywhere or just keep walking until you find the trash
can? The question sound simple but believe it or not, your answer will indicate Malaysian
awareness on cleanliness in public. Recreational area is not the only victim of eyes pollution;
even the public toilet, sidewalk, and many more places had been spotted in a really
gruesome condition. Factually, the condition of public cleanliness portrayed the
community͛s hygiene level. Are we willing to be labelled by the outsider that Malaysian is
lack of responsible in managing sanitation in public places? Hence, how Malaysian can put
their heads together to improve the level of cleanliness among the society?

The best approach in increasing the level of awareness of cleanliness is begins at

home. Like most people say, charity begins at home. Parents can start educate their child as
early as possible. Show the proper manner in managing daily routine such as using the toilet
appropriately, tidying their bedrooms; arrange shoes well at shoes rack, and other simple
regular activity. When the children get used to such simple responsible, there wi ll be no
problems when it comes to the real world because they had got early expose on how to deal
with the current atmosphere well. Anyhow, instead of instruct children to take care on the
surrounding cleanliness, parents should also implement the activit y with their children so
that it will be a joyous activity instead of burden. If every family tend to implement this tip,
it is possible if soon the public places are in a really admirable condition.

However, to get real, this problem is actually in a quit e critical state, thus using an
influential medium is quite rational though. I reckon the power of media can be benefit in
encourage Malaysian in increasing their understanding. Custom commercial break and plain
poster might not effective. Therefore, campaign on loving the environment can be express
in lots of interesting way to attract the society effectively particularly the youth. For
example, the message of loving the public facilities or places can be implicitly deliver in local
series or even big screen movies. Creative short film which was implemented during the ͚Tak
Nak͛ Campaign can be redoing in the public places care campaign. The more motivating the
delivering, the more effective the message will be. Two heads are better than one, thus the
ministry and the NGOs from different expertise should sit in a table and discuss on how to
encourage the community not to damage or pollute the public places and leaved no stone
unturned.

Consequently, if this problem gets worst, power of rules can be put into p ractice. It
might sound harsh if we hear that someone got sue like thousand of money for throwing
candy͛s wrapper in the sidewalk. Surprisingly G7 countries like Japan and German are hardly
emphasize on public cleanliness but facing no problem applying thi s law. Charge for
damaging the public facilities can be a sky high price so that people are fear and reluctant to
commit the unlawful activity. Besides, this rule shall not just implemented in the public,
specific places such as school and office can also put into this law. Instead of warning, this
law also play role to educate people on the vital of public environment in our life. So,
everyone should follow the rule so that good -condition public places can be obtained.

In conclusion, every person plays certain role to the country specially the country
pride. Simple things such as lack of cleanliness in public places is not supposed appear on
surface spoiling Malaysia͛s image. Anyhow, the process of improving the public places
cleanliness can be done slowly and well-planned since Rome was not built in one day.
Commitment from everyone is crucially important or else perfect plan will just remain a
plan.
