Since it was established after the Straits Settlement in 1826, Pos Malaysia Berhad

becomes the famous of mail services in Malaysia. It has a vast experience forms a strong

backbone to support its massive restructuring when it is became a corporatized entity in

1992. Basically, there are three main services provide by them which is Mail, Courier and

logistic and Retail .

The mail service includes the provision of basic mail services for corporate and

individual customers and customized solutions. Where, the Courier and logistic includes

logistics and courier solutions by sea, air and land to both national and international

destinations, and Retail, includes over -the-counter services for payment of bills and certain

financial products and services. The Pos Malaysia operates its courier business through its

two business units, namely PosLaju and PSH Express Sdn Bhd. The Comp any is also

engaged in the business of Internet security products, solutions and services and rental

income from investment properties. While mail services manage under PosMel and this

entity managing an average of 4 million mail items every day. PosMel is focused in providing

day-to-day mailing services both general public and retail customers 1.

The ABX Express started its operations in Labuan, in 1984 by providing time

sensitive courier services to Malaysia and Brunei. In 2004, the company became the first

Malaysian express provider to establish an international network covering more than 200

countries. ABX Express has a full commitment to customer care, anticipating needs and

providing the highest level of services. Their customers have the suitable facilities including

for the scheduling of document and package pick -ups, tracking of shipments, checking of

freight charges and obtaining information on ABX?services2.

Typically, the employees are provides with the suitable compensation scheme.

According to Noorriati Din, compensation refers to all monetary payment and all goods and

services to rewards employees. Where a suitable wages structure should be design to

maintain the employees productivity. Therefore, these organization have managed t heir

wage rate efficiently.

Besides, every employee should receive the employee benefits. The employment

benefits is defined as any form of compensation provided by the organization other than

wages or salaries that are paid for in whole or in part by the employer. This employee

benefits are also essential for the development of corporate industrial relations. It is include

retirement plans, child care, elder care, hospitalization programs, social security, vacation

and paid holidays , bonus, canteen meals subsidies (R.W Mondy ;R.M Noe, 1996)1.

Now a day, there are more than 15,000 employee works under Pos Malaysia Berhad

and the ABX Express boasts a staff strength of 1,200 under 78 established service centres

throughout Malaysia. These employees are protected under the Workmen's compensation

and Employees Social Security Act 1969 . The Workmen's compensation is a compensation

for injury to foreign employee or worker arising out of and in the course of employment that

is paid to the worker or dependants, as per the Workmen¶s Compensation Act 1952 2. The

employer has to purchase workmen¶s compensation insurance for workmen's compensation

claims by injured employees or workers.

From 1st July 1992, the Malaysian workers are no longer covered under the

Workmen's Compensation Act 1952 3. They will be covered under the Employees Social

Security Act 1969. The Employees Social Security Act 1969 is certain benefits to employees

in case of invalidity and employment injury include occupational diseases. These mandatory

benefits become the employers liability which has to be paid for.
