Selenium Suppressor Test and Reform Procedure

1. Determine if the suppressor is a DC (Polarized) or AC (Non-polarized). Then use Figure 1 for DC and
Figure 2 for AC.
2. Fill out Table 1 to figure out the suppressor’s voltage rating.
3. Using Table 2, find the maximum leakage allowed.
4. Slowly step the voltage up to the calculated rating, and monitor the current ensuring that the cell plates
do not get too hot during the forming period. (This can be accomplished using a fan during the
test/reforming)
5. Note: A selenium suppressor that has not been used or had voltage applied to it for 6 months or more
should be reformed
6. If the suppressor has been in operation and the test is for functionality, then a fan is not required.
