Dear Students,

America has always been a nation with a diverse population. It has been called a nation
of immigrants. Part of the job of the Department of Homeland Security is to monitor
and regulate immigration and to secure our nation’s borders via the Border Patrol and
the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement departments. It is an important and vital
task that we have been given.

In today’s world, immigration (legal or illegal) is a hot button topic both here in the
United States and across the world. As people continue to emigrate to the United States
it is important to be sensitive to the many customs and traditions that these people
bring with them from their homelands.

That is where you come in Ben Davis! We at Homeland Security would like you to
create a presentation that will become a part of our new employee orientation. The
overall theme of the presentation should encompass the question “Why do people
choose to come to America, and should we want them here?” The presentation will
include elements of our nation’s history of immigration from the colonial era to modern
day topics and issues. In addition to the historical and political aspect of the
presentation, you will create a video presentation that captures the stories of those that
have lived the American experience in the past and today.

We believe it is vital for our employees and agents to model cultural diversity for all of
America. We like to think of America as the best country in the world, we need to
continue to prove that to the world, even as the world comes to us.
