AdoptAid To Patch Up Irish Adoption Record

There are currently 1,200 Irish children without families and seeking adoption
through Social Services. 1,100 of these are between 4 and 16 years old.

Of the 3,000 Irish couples interested in adoption however, almost all exclusively
want to adopt children under the age of 2. Thus the importing of eastern infants
has become a widely considered endeavour.

When questioned on the situation, Department of Health and Children’s Dominic

Cunningham commented “It’s an utter disgrace, these children [Irish] are in
need of stable, committed parents- not romantic idealists hopping on board with
the latest celebrity trends.”

AdoptAid will be launched and directed under Cunningham in 2003. His elite
team of 25 will strive to promote the adoption of Irish children, to married
couples who are up to the job.

Along with providing comprehensive support services, the organization will hold
a register of all children in Social Services and have an empirical impact on how
the adoption services are regulated.
