Q1. [20 marks]

.
(a) A block moves outward along the slot in the platform with a speed of r = (5t) m/s,
where t is in seconds. The platform rotates at a constant rate of 6 rad/s. If the block
starts from rest at the center, determine the magnitudes of its velocity and
acceleration when t = 2s. (8 marks)

(b) The man pushes on the 500 N crate with a force F. The force is always directed
down at 30o from the horizontal as shown, and its magnitude is increased until the
crate begins to slide. Determine the crate’s initial acceleration if the static coefficient
of friction is µS = 0.75 and the kinetic coefficient of friction is µK = 0.5

Q2. [20 marks]

A 200 N suitcase slides with an initial velocity of vA = 2.5 m/s down the ramp.
Determine the point where it strikes the ground at C if the kinetic coefficient of
friction along AB is µK = 0.2. How long does it take to go from A to C?
(20 marks)

Q3. [20 marks]

(a) The man M weighs 750 N ( ≈ 75 kg) and jumps onto the boat B which is originally at
rest. If he has a horizontal component of velocity of 3.0 m/s just before he enters the
boat, determine the weight of the boat if it has a velocity of 1 m/s once the man
enters. (8 marks)

(b) The 2-kg ball is thrown at the suspended 15-kg block with a velocity of 4 m/s. If the
coefficient of restitution between the ball and the block is e = 0.8, determine the
maximum height h to which the block will swing before it momentarily stops. If the
time of impact between the ball and the block is 0.005 s, determine the average
normal force exerted on the block during this time.
(12 marks)

Q4. [20 marks]

(a) Starting from rest when s = 0, pulley A is given an angular acceleration

α = (6θ) rad/s2, where θ is in radians. Determine the speed of the block B when it
has risen s = 6 m. The pulley has an inner hub D which is fixed to C and turns with
it. (10 marks)

(b) The crankshaft AB is rotating at a constant angular velocity of ω = 160 rad/s.

Determine the velocity of piston P at the instant θ = 60o.

Q5. [20 marks]

The wheel having a radius a = 0.5 rolls without slipping such that at the instant
shown it has an angular velocity ω = 6 rad/s and angular acceleration α = 2 rad/s2.

attached to the cord, determine the angular acceleration of the disk when the block is
released from rest. Also, what is the velocity of the block after it falls a distance 2R
starting from rest.
M= 4 kg (10 marks)

m= 3 kg

(b) The spool has a mass of 100 kg and a radius of gyration kG = 0.3 m. If the
coefficients of static and kinetic friction at A are µS = 0.2 and µK = 0.15,
respectively, determine the angular acceleration of the spool if P = 600 N
