1. Determine the computer diagram to simulate the following block. Calculate resistors and capacitor
values. Maximum expected values are r(t)m=0.5, d(t)m=1.0, m(t)m=1.0 & c(t)m=0.2. Maximum
computer voltage is 10 volts.

If the above system has to be expressed in terms of its natural frequency n and damping ratio d(commonly
expressed by zeta,
i) write the equivalent expression in terms of n, d & K.
ii) What is the time constant in terms of n
iii) What is the damping ratio in terms of K1 & K2
4. Show graphically the NATURE of the STEP response of a second order system, if the roots of its
characteristic equation are as –
i) 3, 3
ii) 3, -3
iii) -3, -3
iv) -3 + i-3 - i
v) 3 + i3 - i
vi) ii
5. An elevator system is described in the accompanying figure. Draw the ladder diagram to implement
its control as expressed by the narrative description given below-
i) When start button is pressed, the platform is driven to the bottom position. (The bottom
position is signaled by the LS2 limit switch which has both NO as well as NC contacts).
ii) The elevator stays at bottom position for 1 minute after which it starts moving up.
iii) On reaching the up position (sensed by Limit switch LS1, having both NO and NC
contacts), the elevator waits for exactly 1 minute after which it starts moving down, till
it reaches the bottom.
iv) The sequence ii.-iii is repeated endlessly unless the stop button is pressed. On pressing
the stop button, the elevator stops, wherever it happens to be at that instant.
v) Both start as well as stop buttons are NO type.
