02 Risks

- How does the varying amount of water create a risk?

If the other parts of the canal upstream is raining, the canal would have a
sudden increase in volume of water present. This results in a fast rise in the
water level in a matter of minutes that can endanger the lives of the collector.

- How does the shape of the canal create a risk

The canal has a steep edge. If the collector is not careful, he might fall
into the canal. The height of the canal can break bones in the collector’s body,
or cause drowning if the collector does not know how to swim.

- How does the possibility of raining create a risk?

When raining occurs, the concrete ground of the canal would become
slippery as there would be surface runoff. If the collector falls into the canal,
the collector might drown or sustain some injury.

03 Management of Risks

To reduce the impact of such risks, everyone is to be wearing safety

equipment, such as shoes with proper traction. The collector must be a
swimmer in case of the sudden rise in water levels. We should also propose a
alternative method of collecting water samples.
