Abstract: Sudden postural abnormalities often create great fear for those who experience it,
besides disrupting daily activities. Prolonged complains can affect the quality of life of the suffer-
ers. Commonly encountered vertigo in daily practice is benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
(BPPV) caused by the existence of debris in semicircular canal. There are two hypothesis regard-
ing the pathophysiology of BPPV, the Kanalithiasis theory and the Kupulolithiasis theory. The
diagnosis of BPPV in the posterior and anterior canal can be done by provocation along with
observation of abnormal nistagmus response using Dix-Hallpike or Side Lying maneuvers. To
days there are 3 kinds of maneuvers that can be used to treat BPPV: CRT maneuvers and Brandt-
Daroff exercise.
