1. (a) What is meant by precision rectifier? Explain its working principle and its suitability in measure-
ment applications.
(b) How minimum voltage ranges are limited in low cost (AVO) voltmeter in a.c. range? What circuit
arrangement is used to convert a.c. to d.c. in such voltmeters? [8+8]
2. (a) With a neat diagram describe the principle of operation of Video pattern generator.
(b) With a block diagram explain the working of an AF oscillator. [8+8]
3. (a) Explain with the help of block diagram the working of a spectrum analyzer.
(b) Explain the different applications of spectrum analyzer. [8+8]
4. (a) Draw the block diagram of a basic horizontal amplifier and explain its working.
(b) Write short notes on the synchronization of the sweep. [10+6]
5. (a) What is an electronic counter? How can it be used for the measurement of the following:
i. Average time period mode
ii. Totalizing.
(b) What is trigger level errors and suggest the means to obtain the maximum accuracy? [10+6]
6. (a) Find the series inductance, resistance and Q of an inductive element using Maxwell bridge .Given
Z1=parallel combination of a resistor of value 470 Ω and a capacitor of value 0.5 µF, Z2=Z3=2KΩ.
The bridge is driven by a 3 KHz sinusoidal source.
(b) Explain the principle and working of Q meter? [8+8]
7. What is principle of thermocouple? How temperature is measured by thermocouple? List out the
limitations and advantages of it? [16]
8. (a) Write a short note on A/D & D/A converters and what is the need of converters in DAS?
(b) With neat sketch explain the Multi channel analog multiplexed system? [8+8]
