A LIGHT IN THE DARK

by

David Calvert

I endured upon the earth no longer a child, yet not quite a man, wasting life’s all-to-
precious time; taking upon myself the many roles, as of an actor.
The mysteries of life surrounded me, yet on I played in self-entertainment, distracted
from distraction by distraction, thinking not of the greater mystery that lay before me.

Then came the awakening and I found myself in the midst of a wonder whose light
illumined my darkness, and there in her eyes I saw the changing of my life and was
awoken to the pains and pleasures of love, as with tender embraces the forces
conjoined - the anima and animus becoming as one.

And from that conjunction life sprang forth and was nurtured, that the dread
transience of earthly mortality, the fear of disremembered lives, be negated.
Bestowed upon me was a living gift whose very essence is both yours and mine. In
his seed is carried our immortality.

You, my greatest love, are the light that continues to illumine my way. You have lifted
from my shoulders the weight of the past and have liberated my spirit in hopes of the
future.
To the closing of my days I will love you.
