CHIEF NURSE

Responsibilities
• Chief nurses sometimes work in the educational field, teaching other nurses, conducting
seminars or leading practice rounds. They may also assist in research and the organization of
presentations and lectures. When reports are required by external agencies, chief nurses are
often in charge of setting up summaries of internal performance and policy follow-up.

Overall Duties
• Chief nurses are often responsible for creating a vision of what patient care in a particular unit
(or sometimes in the whole medical facility) should be like. This may include operational
performance of staff and procedures, the implementation of care systems and the direct
execution of patient care activities.

Duties & Responsibilities of a

FLOOR SUPERVISOR
1) Monitoring the situation of a patient that is in a critical or, a
life-threatening illness.
2) They receive reports of any patient that is considered " high risk "
3) Staff requirements ( if a particular floor is under-staffed or a floor is over-staffed, they delegate the
staff to the most crucial areas )
3) If needed, due to short staffing, they will contact Doc's about
their patients' status ( if failing).
4) If they are needed, in a crunch, will take on the role of the Unit
Manager so, the Manager is free to take on a patient assignment
which helps to ease any staff shortage.
5) Reports to the next shift, any changes( decline in health) in a patients' status, any emergency
treatments required due to failing
health or, a death of a patient.
A Nursing Supervisor has a tremendous responsibility.
They oversee any pertinent changes in patients', staff availability, emergency care required for a patient,
among other tasks, even
starting an IV drip.
Duties & Responsibilities of a
HEAD NURSE
● Head nurses act as the supervisors of a facility's nursing staff. They allocate duties and evaluate
the performance of other nurses. They also train any newly hired nurses.

● Head nurses also work directly with patients. They ensure that patients; conditions remain
stable and that doctors; treatment instructions have been properly carried out.
● Head nurses are responsible for ensuring that adequate quantities of supplies are maintained,
and for ordering new supplies when necessary.
● The head nurse is responsible for alerting the doctor to any unique concerns or complaints
regarding a patient.
