7 Steps to Enhance your Manta Encounter

BRIEFING - You can enjoy a longer and more spectacular

encounter by listening to your briefing and
following your guide’s directions.
OBSERVE ONLY - Do not approach closer than 3 metres,
allow the mantas to come to you. Do not touch,
this can remove protective mucus.
BEHAVIOUR - Do not chase or
restrict the manta’s normal
behaviour. Form a semi-
circle with your group,
allowing a clear flight path.
POSITION - Stay on or near to the
bottom. Mantas need an
open water column, and are
more likely to approach.
BUBBLES - Be aware that exhaled bubbles can startle
mantas swimming overhead.
PHOTOGRAPHERS - Don’t overlook these guidelines in
order to get a good picture or video. Avoid
excessive flash photography.
IMPACTS - Be aware of buoyancy, and avoid unnecessary
knocking or kicking of the reef. Do not take
anything from the environment.
