1. Family Structure, Characteristic and Dynamics

• The Datoon family’s patriarch is Joselito Datoon. His wife is Melody Datoon.
They have two children, namely: Jonh Micheal Datoon, being the eldest and
Joanna Mae Datoon being the youngest.
• Tatay Joselito and Nanay Melody have been married for almost seven years. They
are both 33 years old. The age of their children are the following: Jonh Micheal is
6 years old and Joanna Mae is 5 years old. All of their children are single and still
studying.

• When it comes to decision making, Nanay Melody told me that she and her
husband assess their family problems and consult each other’s opinion before
making their final decision.

• As for their family’s relationship, I have observed that their children are very
polite and sweet to their parents. I must say that this reflects the good parenting
that they have been practicing in their household.

2. Socio-economic and Cultural Characteristics

• For their income and expenses, Tatay Joselito works as a family driver to support
their daily needs. Nanay Melody on the other hand is a housewife.

• Nanay Melody mentioned that their monthly budget ranges from 5,000 Php to
6,000 Php. That amount is adequate enough to meet their basic needs on food,
water, and electricity. They said that what is left of their money is still enough to
support their children’s financial needs.

• In terms of their educational attainment, Tatay Joselito is a college graduate. His

wife though, is a 2nd year high school undergraduate. Their children, Jonh Micheal
is at kinder garten. While Joanna Mae is not yet in school.

• The Datoon family are Roman-Catholic. They are not part of any community
organization.

3. Home and Environment

• On home and environment, the family owns the home and lot. I have observed
that the space of their house is adequate enough for their family. The family does
have supply of electricity, they also own appliances like, television, radio, dvd
player and a fan.
• I have observed that the exterior of their house is not organized. The interior is
clean enough. They also don’t have any pet.

• The family doesn’t have a refrigerator for food and storage. What they do is, they
cover up their food and drinking water.

• Maynilad supplies them with their drinking water.

• Their garbage disposal is collected. The garbage is placed outside their house. The
garbage collectors comes once a week to collect their garbage.

• They don’t have hazardous equipment on the inside.

• Their drainage system, like their neighbors, is open and free-flowing.

• I must say that their neighborhood can be considered clean and sanitized. The area
is congested, but respect is evidently shown by the neighbors due to their quiet
environment. It is also evident that the environment is peaceful and orderly. The
downside is that hazards like rusty makeshifts could cause accidents especially to
the children who love to play during daytime.

• The facilities available in the neighborhood are the following: Health Centers,
which they seldom use depending on the number of medical missions that they
receive, the Barangay Hall, Social hall, and the nearest market and as well as a
basketball court.

• Their means of transportation are tricycles, which they use whenever they have to
go to places such as the market place, the hospital or clinic. In terms of
communication, no one owns a telephone. Most of the townsfolk use cellular
phones in order to communicate with other people.

4. Health Status of each Family Member

• For family health history, Nanay Melody told me that her husband had asthma.
She, on the other hand, does not recall having any history of a serious disease. I
had checked her blood pressure twice. The first week, 123/70 mmHg and on the
following week, her blood pressure was 130/80 mmHg. Her respiratory rate,
however, is normal which is 28 beats per minute and her pulse rate is 80 beats per
minute.
• She told me that her husband had again experienced asthma, just like what
happened last Monday, due to fatigue. I have also learned that two of their
children have acquired asthma. She also mentioned Joanna Mae had Diarrhea last
December. Moreover, her children has acquired common diseases such as fever,
cough and colds.

brings them to their family doctor.

eat rice, fish, chicken, pork, and vegetables.

me that she had completed her immunization during her pregnancy. She also told
me that the immunization of her children has already been completed.

enough exercise and that her bonding time with her children is her only form of
relaxation while they are watching television. In terms of rest and sleep, she told
