Indus Valley Weight System

A statistical and graphic survey

Step 1

• Enter all values in a table

– NB: value 9,255 is not in
the right place
• Step 2 : divide all values by 13.67

• Step 3 : create a graph and select logarithmic

scale

• Step 4: look what happens

The internal structure of the weights
• Step 5 : zoom on the 145 highest values

• Step 6 : create a graph and select regular scale

• Step 7 : look what happens

High multiples
• Step 8 : zoom on the 250 lowest values

• Step 9 : create a graph and select regular scale

• Step 10 : look what happens

Small multiples and fractions

Totally ridiculous. Go read _Lying with Statistics_ sometime:

The Indus weight system(s) have been analyzed and reanalyzed

since the 1930s. No one denies that there are *crude* standards in
there. But to claim that there is a precise system of proportions,
etc., or weights precise within two decimal points, as is often
claimed, is ludicrous.

Every ancient urban civilization we know of had weight systems. All

had wide regional variations in weights. None of them were
accurate.
As I've repeatedly pointed out, even Hemmy himself -- the guy who
put together these data (which by the way are fudged, as I've
