Projection Of Straight Line

• A Straight line can be kept in SIX (6)

different positions with respect to VP and
HP in First Quadrants as given below:
• 1. Line Parallel to Both HP and VP.
• 2. Line Inclined to HP and Parallel to VP.
• 3. Line Perpendicular to HP.
• 4. Line Inclined to VP and Parallel to HP.
• 5. Line Perpendicular to VP.
• 6. Line Inclined to both HP and VP.

Total fifteen(15) dimensions & are listed below:
1. The point A distance from HP. ( any one = above / below / on)
2. The point A distance from VP. ( any one = in front / behind / on)
3 & 4. similarly for the point B.
5. Distance between the end projectors of A & B.
6. Elevation length. ( shortest distance between a’ & b’)
7. Plan length. ( shortest distance between a & b)
8. EL inclination angle to XY (or) apparent angle of the line to HP.
9. PL inclination angle to XY (or) apparent angle of the line to VP.
10. TL= True length of the line.
11. True inclination angle to HP.
12. True inclination angle to VP.
13. Horizontal trace ( it is a plan of a point, which lies in HP and in line
……with the points AB.
14. Vertical trace ( it is a elevation of a point, which lies in VP and in
……line with the points AB.
15. Distance between the projectors or HT and VT.
