1. We use ‘some’ words in POSITIVE sentences:


a. I can hear something
b. Someone is upstairs
c. He went on holiday somewhere in France
We can use ‘some’ words in questions IF WE ARE OFFERING
SOMETHING or ASKING FOR SOMETHING.
d. Would you like something to eat?
e. Can you suggest somewhere to stay in Rome?

2. We use ‘any’- words in NEGATIVE OR QUESTIONS.


a. I can’t see anything, turn on the light!
b. I didn’t meet anybody at the disco
c. Did you go anywhere last weekend?

Any words can appear in positive sentences with the meaning


‘cualquiera que’ , ‘sea lo que sea’, quien sea, etc.
• I’ll do anything you want (haré lo cualquier cosa que
quieras)
• It’s easy! Anyone can do it (es fácil, cualquiera puede
hacerlo)
• I will go anywhere (Iré a cualquier parte)

3. We use no – words in positive sentences to give a negative


meaning
a. Nothing is wrong
b. Nobody visited the hospital
c. We went nowhere last weekend.

A. Fill the gaps with ‘some –‘ , ‘any – ‘ or ‘no-‘ words.

B. Translate into English the following paragraph:

Natalie tuvo una mala semana. Sus amigos no le regalaron nada por
su cumpleaños, y nadie vio a la fiesta. El fin de semana, no fue a
ninguna parte y alguien le robó el MP3. Además, nadie la llamó en
toda la semana.

C. Translate into Spanish the following sentences:


1. The exam was easy. Anyone could answer the questions.

2. All the beds are free. Sleep anywhere you like.

3. He never locks his house. Anybody can walk in.

4. Nick had a fairly good week. He went to London but he went


nowhere else.

5. I’m hungry. Can you give me something to eat?
