Geometry Honors: Chapter 1 & 2 Quiz Information

• 2 classes from now you will have a full period, 50-min quiz. Yum!!!
• The quiz covers sections 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-4, and 2-5 in the book.

Right now we’re going to go over the important ideas from this unit. For
homework you will do sample problems. To check your answers or get help
come in before or after school. Next class will be new material not on the quiz!

Given Information Statement we can make (Reason)

M is the midpoint
of AB

1 and 2 are
complementary
Picture:
!1 + !2 = 180

Naming Points Naming Segments

Lines Rays
Planes Distance

Preparing for the quiz!!! Know all the concepts above. In particular …

• Know Vocabulary in context- Some sample questions:

1. Draw a picture of XY bisecting a right angle !RXS .

2. Draw two adjacent supplementary angles.

3. !A and !B are complementary with "A = !5( x ! 11) and "B = !2(7 ! 6 x) .
Find measure of each angle.

4. Consider the diagram below. Using proper symbols to name…

(a) a point coplanar with E, F, A

(b) a point coplanar with E, F, B
(c) two segments that intersect at E
(d) two lines that intersect at E
(e) a ray containing A and X but not B.
• Most importantly, know how to do any homework and classwork problem you’ve seen.

• Make sure you checked, corrected and understand EVERY problem that you got wrong!

• Know any problem solving strategies I’ve taught. Some sample questions:

1. Find (using algebra) an angle whose supplement is triple its complement.

2. Are !DEF and !FEC complementary?

Show work!

3. To the right C is the midpoint of AD and B is the midpoint of AC .

CD = 6 x ! 8 and BC = 2 x ! 1 .

(a) Find the numerical length of BC

(b) Suppose that AD is part of a number line and B is located at -3.

Find the coordinates of A, C and D. You will need your answer to part (a)!

A_____ C______ D______

4. In the diagram to the right is AB ! CD ?

Again, you must justify your answer!
