Legacy in Utah
• Legacy has awarded $1,580,555.00 in grants to projects in Utah.

Tobacco Usage

• In FY10 Utah spent $8.3 million on tobacco prevention, which is 35.3% of the CDC Annual
Spending Target.1

• The CDC estimates that 55.7 % of adult smokers in Utah tried to quit smoking in 2008.2

• Utah received $97 million in tobacco settlement payments and taxes in FY10.3

• Utah has not securitized any of its Master Settlement Agreement dollars.4

State Tobacco Laws9

Excise Tax: There is a tax of $0.695 per pack on cigarettes. The tax on moist snuff is $0.75 per
ounce and all other tobacco products are taxed 35% of selling price.

Clean Indoor Air Ordinances


• Smoking is prohibited in all child care centers, government buildings, restaurants,
schools, bars, health facilities and private workplaces.

Youth Access Laws


• The minimum age requirement for the purchase of tobacco products is 19, and penalties
exist for both minors and merchants who violate this law.

• Only sales clerks are allowed access to tobacco products prior to sale.
