CRITERIA FOR PLAIN CHEST X-RAY OF TH TUBERCULOSIS CASES

DESCRIPTION.

Plain chest X-ray description of typical tuberculosis cases is an obligate skill


required after finishing the cycle of Pthisiology and checked at the final module control.
Students are training this skill at practical classis under the lecturers’ direction. The
description must be composed according the standard plan.
Maximal score which can be earned for X-ray description is 10 grades including:

1. Technical standard of the X-ray (exposure, centralization, degree of inspiration,


position, view, sweep, artifacts) – 1 grade (any criterion missed – 0).
2. Skeleton and soft tissue appreciation – 1 grade (any criterion missed – 0).
3. Lung patterns appreciation – 1 grade.
4. Lung field condition appreciating. Pathological opacities and translucencies revealing
and localizing – 1 grade (any formation missed – 0).
5. Opacities and translucencies description according existing criteria (localization, size,
shape, quantity, outer and inner borders (for translucencies), density (for opacities) – 1
grade (any criterion missed – 0).
6. Hilum condition evaluation (structure, syntopy, shape, size, inclusions) – 1 grade (any
criterion missed – 0).
7. Diaphragm and diaphragmatic sinus condition evaluation (position, shape, contour,
angles) – 1 grade (any criterion missed – 0).
8. Mediastinum description (shape, structure, cardio-thoracic ratio) – 1 grade (any criterion
missed – 0).
9. Conclusion containing the analysis of revealed abnormalities and sindromic diagnosis:
correct – 1 grade, incorrect – 0.
10. Calling 2-3 diseases, which produce the detected radiological syndrome, defining the
most probable: correct – 1 grade, incorrect – 0.
