Protocol for Laptop Use in the Fine Arts

Classroom/Studio Procedures
Laptops are essential course material, and must be brought to
class daily. They will take the place of traditional
notebooks as a means of note-taking, research and
organization.

Charging
Students are required to come to class with charged laptops.
Students should recharge as necessary before class and during
advisory. Students must bring their own power cord to class.
Teachers will have power-strips available for students to use
for emergencies.

Common Method of Backing Up Student Work


In all arts courses, class notes, assignments, research and
presentations (including OneNote & PDFs) will to be
saved/backed up to Student ifolder. All students in visual
arts classes will keep digital portfolios and will be backed
up on Dionysus.

Requirements with Regard to Notes/Note Taking


Students are required to take notes electronically using
OneNote. OneNote will have a Notebook for each class;
teachers will decide how to organize folders for their
classes. Faculty will use digital handouts, tests, written
papers and presentations. All courses will coordinate the use
of laptops with the postings on the Portal and with course
websites.

Collecting Student Work


All student work assigned digitally will be collected
digitally. All tests, written papers and presentations will
be done digitally. Visual art work will be photographed and
archived as part of their assessment.

Use of the Portal.


All information relevant to arts classes will be distributed
only on the portal, including:
• course descriptions
• Syllabi
• Downloads of handouts and other course materials
• assignments
• grading rubrics
• performances and activities
• Links to course websites
Teacher course evaluation.
All teachers in the Art Department will use Survey Monkey as
a means to gather student responses to course evaluations.
