Introduction

The purpose of this document is to provide engineers in the field with a

procedure for upgrading an existing TRACE MS system to a TRACE MS
PLUS system.

The procedure entails removal and fitting of the Digital PCB, the fitting of
the extra cover required and the fitting of the CI and Solids & DCI modules.

Initial Procedures
1) If the system is not already out of vacuum, vent the system.

2) Power down the instrument and remove the mains cable.

3) If necessary, remove the transit locking bolt at the rear of the instrument.

4) Lower the Digital Unit onto the bench.

5) Remove the Digital PCB cover.

Removing the Digital PCB (FM100214)

1) Disconnect all cables connected to the current PCB.

2) For the connectors that have locating nuts, use a 5mm nut driver to remove
them.

3) Remove all the screws that hold the PCB to the unit.

4) Remove the PCB from the unit.

Fitting the new Digital PCB (P/N)

1) Remove the locating nuts from the PCB using a 5mm nut driver.

2) Locate the PCB with the connectors lining up as shown.

3) Using the screws that held the previous PCB, fasten the PCB down into the
unit.

4) From the upgrade kit, locate the extra cover.

5) Fasten the cover to the rear of the instrument in the orientation shown.

6) Refit the locating nuts to the PCB.

7) Reconnect the cables.

Fitting the CI control cable

1) On the new Digital PCB, the CI control cable is fitted to J20 as shown.

1) On the new Digital PCB, the control cable for the Solids and DCI probe is
connected as shown above.
