The Pursuit of Happyness

The Assignment:

After watching the feature film “The Pursuit of Happyness” you must complete a film study

 The film study can be completed in any of the following 3 styles:


o Written (1000 words minimum)
o Poster Board (2 Bristol Board Minimum)
o Creative (Written proposal must be approved)

 Each of the 4 choices for the film study have the following expectations:

1. Discuss the 3 themes below as they relate to the film itself.

a. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs


i. Apply the theory to Chris throughout the movie
 Physiological, Safety, Love & Belonging, Esteem, Self Actualization
ii. Discuss Chris’ development from start to finish
 Where did he start/finish? Justify. How did he get there?
b. Decision Making
i. Discuss the different types of decisions that were made throughout the movie
 Planned, Default, Impulse, Emotional, Resistance
ii. Outline Chris’ decision making process with regards to accepting the internship
 Identify, Consider, Choose, Act, Evaluate
iii. Discuss the factors influenced Chris’ decision making
 Values, Peers, Habits, Feelings, Family, Risk/Reward, Age
c. Working to Achieve Your Goals
i. Discuss the types of resources that were available to Chris
 Human, Material, Community, Natural
ii. Discuss how Chris managed his resources (effectively & ineffectively)
 Expanding, Conserving, Exchanging, Substituting
