Grading rubric for Research Paper

Title Page
1. Title page correct (25 points will be deducted if title page is not correctly done)
General Rules
2. No Comma after date (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed)
3. No Contractions (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed)
4. Margins should be 1” on all sides (5 points will be deducted for each side that is not
1” margins – this can easily total up to 20 points if you did not follow the directions
for this assignment).
5. Font is 12 pt and Times Roman (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed,
which can total up to 10 points if both rules are not followed)
6. Paper is Double spaced (15 points will be deducted)
7. Delete all necessary white space (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed)
8. Paper is in third person (no personal pronouns used such as I, We, Me, You, etc.) (5
points will be deducted for each item noticed)
Body Paragraphs
9. Topic sentence in each body paragraph (5 points will be deducted for each item
noticed)
10. For each piece of evidence there should be 3 to 6 sentences of commentary/
elaboration (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed)
11. Citations should always be at end of sentence (5 points will be deducted for each
item noticed)
12. For each body paragraph there should be at least 3 pieces of evidence (5 points will
be deducted for each item noticed)
13. Are Quotes always present in the evidence sentence (no paraphrasing is allowed) (5
points will be deducted for each item noticed)
14. Do you have appropriate transitional phrases? Another words NO DUMPED
QUOTES ARE ALLOWED! (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed)
15. Concluding sentence in each body paragraph (5 points will be deducted for each item
noticed)
16. 3-5 sentence introductory and concluding paragraph (5 points will be deducted for
each item noticed)
Works Cited
17. All punctuation in Works Cited is appropriate. Along with each citation is listed in
alphabetical order. (5 points will be deducted for each item noticed)
Late Work (after Friday, 3/11/2011 at 2:15 pm you will have to upload the final
draft on my website.) These days listed below will count from 3/11/2011 after
2:15 p.m.
18. 1 day late 25 points will be deducted
19. 2 days late 50 points will be deducted
20. 3 days late it becomes a zero.
