Artist Action Figures

You will be creating an action figure of a famous artist. Choose one of the artists below to create an
action figure of. Your action figure will be presented in a box just as you would purchase in a store
so you will also be responsible for designing the packaging.

1. Choose the artist that you would like to research.

2. First you must thoroughly research your artist. Use the handout to get started. You must use
a minimum of 5 resources to research from. You must also find images of the artist to work
from and print them out as reference to work on your action figure.
3. Look at designs of toy action figure packages as part of your research
4. Design the package using a combination of what actual packages look like (to create
excitement of the toy) and the artist’s famous paintings and style. Brainstorm different
possibilities before settling on one)
5. You can create the package by hand using color pencils and/or markers or use an editing
program on your computer to create it. However, if you use your computer you are allowed
to use a minimum of 3 images off the Internet and the rest should be created by you.
6. Create your artist action figure using sculpey clay (about 15cm tall). Include the type of
clothing that artist would wear and how they actually look. Try to include something that
you have learned about them in your action figure. (i.e. Frida Kaho’s back problems)
7. Present your action figure in it’s box at the final critique
