MEASUREMENT OF DC AND AC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OP-AMP

DC and AC characteristics
a) Voltage gain Av
b) Input Resistance Ri
c) Output Short circuit current Isc
d) Input offset voltage Vio
e) Input bias currents IB1 and IB2
f) Output Offset Voltage Voot
g) Supply currents
h) Saturation voltages +Vsat
i) CMRR (RTI)
j) PSRR(RTI)
k) Slew Rate

Procedure :

Measuring open loop gain Av

1) Wire up the circuit and apply 1uV input and record the output
2) Calculate open loop gain Av= Vo/Vi
Measuring Vio(input offset voltage) and input bias current IB

1. Construct the circuit below

2. Apply Vcc =15V and Vee=-15V
3. R2 and R3 may be between 2MΏ and 10MΏ
4. Use jumper wires for switches A and B
5. With both switches closed, record Vo. This is Voot(total output offset voltage)= Voot due to
input offset voltage and Voot due to input bias current.Since Viob =0 as there are no input
resistors

Measurement of input bias currents using resistors

1 Open switch A and record Vo. This is Voo which is inclusive of input bias current .Subtract the value
of Voot obtained in step 5 and the difference is VoIB .Ib1 is calculated
Ib1=- (Voot-Voo)/R2= -VoIB /R2
2 Close switch A and open switch B and record Vo.This is Voot inclusive of Voo.
Subtract the value of Voo obtained in step 5 and this is difference is VoIB .Ib2 is calculated
Ib2= +(Voot-Voo)/R3= +VoIB /R3

Measurement of input bias currents using picoammeter

Use picoammeter by connecting its common lead to the opamp output terminal and hot lead to the
inverting terminal and open switch B
Measurement of Output offset voltage

1.Wire up the circuit and measure Vo

Measuring Saturation Voltages

1) Wire up the circuit and measure Vo

Measuring Output Short Circuit current

Wire up the circuit and measure Io

Measuring Supply Currents

1) Wire up the circuit and measure Iee and Icc

2) Record Iee and Icc
Measurement of CMRR

1)Wire up circuit as shown in figure

2) Calculate CMRR

Measurement of Input Resistance

1) Wire up circuit as in figure
2) Apply 1V dc to the input of the opamp.
3) Vary the potentiometer to get 50% of maximum voltage.
4) Measure the resistance of the potentiometer at that voltage.

Measurement of Slew rate

1) Wire up a buffer and vary the input frequency till distortionless amplitude can be obtained
2) Calculate SR= 2πfV
Measurement of PSRR(RTI)

1)Wire up circuit as shown in figure

2) Vary the power supply switches and record Vo for +10V and +15V
3) Calculate PSRR
