Sumitomo Corporation
Conceptual Study of Hybrid Power and Water Generation Project

Power Plant Configurations for SEC and SWCC Sites

1. Introduction
Further assessment has been carried out upon the comments made by the client on the power plant
configurations for the SEC site. This report summarizes the updates of the investigations.

It also presents the results of analysis on power plant configuration for the SWCC site.

2. Updates of Power Plant Configuration for SEC Site

Power plant capacity requirement of SEC site is 1,600 – 1,800 MW and the plant does not export
desalinated water.

Distillate from the topper island will be used at GE7FA.05 CGTs in combined cycle configuration;
HFO will be used at the supercritical steam generators (SGs) for Rankine cycle configuration.

The initial options developed had limited quantity of naphtha. To further improve overall
performance, the naphtha flow is increased to add either (a) additional GE7FA.05 or (b) a GE6FA
type of machines to minimize burning naphtha in the HRSGs or steam generators.

The updated 3 options for using the naphtha at the power island are:

 Option 1: naphtha is fired at duct burners of HRSGs

 Option 2: naphtha is separately fired at a 6FA GT for a combined cycle mode
 Option 3: naphtha is separately fired at a 7FA.05 GT for a combined cycle mode

The 3 Options are shown in Fig. 1 through Fig. 3.

It is understood that the ratio of naphtha to distillate is adjusted so that the naphtha fired GT can
operate at full load. For comparison, naphtha is burned at the HRSGs in Option 1 and the ratio of
naphtha to distillate is kept same between Option 1 and Option 2. Option 3 has relatively more
naphtha flow to satisfy the demand by 7FA.05 GT.

The power plant has been modeled by using GTPro and SteamPro software, the performance results
are presented in Table 1.The comparison among 3 Options can be summarized:
