STATUS OF THE SOLID WASTE ORGANISATION IN ARUSHA MUNICIPALITY

Sokon 1 -Had 4 groups handling SW but were stopped.
-The groups used to take waste to temporary dumping site but
now it has changed as the AMC trucks collect waste and dump
at the main dump site at Muriet village

Baraa -No dump site and no collection group

-Municipal trucks collect waste along the road thus community
members are forced to take waste by the roadside
Kimandolu -Had 3 waste collection organizations but now not operating
Olorieni -Had about 6 organisations /groups but were not stable as
lacked consistency in service delivery due to lack of funds or
problem with accessing the dump sites
Sekei -Has 2 areas for SW collection
-2 skip buckets and 2 groups for collecting waste namely
Sanawari and Nuren both located on Moshi Road
Themi -Has one organization namely Lemeli Investment collects
waste from town area
-Has two CBO’s namely Taso Ground locaed in the unplanned
area and Ntarakwa group

Engutoto -Has one group which dumps at a place called Alarm
Lemara Has one organization and one group called Baraka that
collects waste
Kaloleni -has one CBO called Malengo group which serves Kaloleni
Mashariki
-1 organisation called Kisomba Waste Collectors which is not
located in the ward but collects their waste
Ngarenare -Had an open dump at Sekina bridge but was removed as land
was taken up for a building development
-Municipal provide services for Tsh. 200 per week but some
can’t afford so area is dirty as majority of people dump any

Kati -Has a group called Vijana group
Levolosi -Area has no group
-Municipal trucks serve the area but not consistently comes
ones or twice a week
-Payment is high charge as high as 1,000-30,000 per week
Unga Limited -No groups or collection point
