Dear Visti,
Namaskar.
Having read all your replies to queries on gemstones and also listened to your MP3s on Ratnas and
also the lecture on MKS, I have a query specifically for the ninth house and Rahu. Please advise.
I quote you from one of your mails on Srijagannath group,” There could be various reasons to
advise a gemstone for the ninth house. If Rahu is joined the ninth house or lord, or aspecting, then
no doubt a yellow sapphire should be worn… no matter the position of Jupiter. In fact, if such a
gemstone is not advised the luck of the person simply won’t start. Instead the person will be running
in circles.” This is well understood.
The principles of Sambandha i.e. Parivartana, Yuti (conjunction), Samdristi (mutual drishti) and
drishti parivartana (drishti on each others signs) discussed in your mail are also well understood.
However the doubt is as follows:-
1. What would prevail in case of Cancer ascendant with Rahu in the ninth house and Jupiter (in
conjunction with Ketu) in the third house? The point of concern is that both Jupiter and Rahu are in
MKS. Also Jupiter wins the planetary war with Ketu as Jupiter is placed about slightly ahead of
Ketu by more than one degree.
(a) Do we have to consider that since Jupiter is in Yuti with Ketu, it is Cat’s eye that is to be worn?
(b) Or do we have to consider that since Jupiter is in MKS, we have to strengthen the Karaka of the
third house, Mars. The significations of the sixth and ninth houses suffer as their lord, Jupiter, is in

MKS. Also, Mars is a Yogakaraka for Cancer ascendant (It is placed in the fifth house but
retrograde).
(c) Or would the principle that “No matter the position of Jupiter, the individual has to wear a
yellow sapphire.” be valid? I did study your horoscope and find that your Jupiter is placed with
Mercury in the twelfth house. And you wear a white sapphire and not an emerald.
2. Also you did mention in one of the mails that the concept for the ninth house will be clear when
Pt. Sanjay’s MP3 on the ninth house is listened to. I tried to search for this MP3, but in vain. Could
you please send the link in your reply?
3. You did mention in one of the mails that the individual must do the japa of the Rg Veda Mantra
of the concerned planet prior to wearing the gem. Can I download the mantras from any site or are
they contained in any book? Please write.

Dear Ekalavya,
1. If the ninth lord is weak you should strengthen it, and thus wearing a yellow sapphire in such
a case is compulsory.
I must add however that its a good idea to check the planets placement from the arudha lagna
before advising it as you can force some unwanted situations on the person if you select the
wrong gemstone.
As for Jupiter in third house… We don’t wanto make the person go to war so better to wear
Jupiters gem itself and make peace even more prevalent.

you did mention that the position of planet in RASI and that from AL be taken into consideration.
can you please throw some light on the planets in certain lagna when they also share the lordship of
dusthan and are in 6 or 8 from AL.For example:SATURN In exhaltation in mithun lagna in 5th bhav
and if its 6th or 8th from AL. Would you still recommend the need for a blue saphire as
saturn being the 8th lord.hope to see learn more about this.
how important is the other divisional charts besides navamsa to be seen for gem consultation.for
example:for career do we need to see the d10 planetary positions too for gem suggestions.

Dear Arnab, Namaskar.
To learn about arudhas and the planets placed from it simply follow the classes which have
been posted on the same in the past on this website: http://www.srigaruda.com/2006/01

For the example you cite of planets lording both a dusthana and ninth house, there is no harm
in wearing the gemstone unless the planet is also placed in the dusthana.
Take the example cited in the lecture for Taurus lagna and Venus in sixth in dusthana. In such
a case the diamond will further enhance the health problems (usually related to the digestion).
The remedy for this is also given in the lecture.
Yes we do need to consider the relevant vargas before giving a gemstone.

i was recently adviced to remove the yellow sapphire i was wearing as it seems that jupiter and
saturn are very closely conjunct in 3rd house from lagna in kanya rasi…is it true that wearing a
stone for jupiter increases saturn along with it?
also jupiter and saturn are aspecting moon in ninth house along with rahu in first house karka rasi
aspecting moon in ninth house in meena rasi…iam extremely confused as to what stone to

How to choose a auspious time for wearing the
gem, for e,g I have been prescribed a gem stone for Mercury and most of the books says that it
should be worn on wednesday after
2-hour of sunrise, after reciting mantra for Mercury.
At the same time Mercury should be strong in its transit.
By strong does it mean that it
Should not be combust
Should not be debilated in its transits
ETC….
Because I am planning to wear it on the full moon day
as I hear it is a quite auspious day and at the
same time I checked the the transtit of Mercury at same day
it looks it will be combust in aries sign with exalted sun.
Please give some suggestion

Recently at a social event, I met an astrologer/palmist who took a lot of interest in me. He had

I am trying to rationalise his suggestion with the theories I have learnt here at SJC.
1. In my chart I have Shani-Chandra yoga in the 2nd from Lagna and 12th from AL. Lagna is in
UBha nakshatra ruled by Saturn.
Per your postings on PV conjunctions and gemstones, due to the conjunction of Shani and Chandra,
they will give each other’s effects.
I already have experience with a pearl. The pearl caused intense
depression and a lot of weight gain.
So in essence per my understanding. Neelam should give 5th house
effects and also strengthen the lagna because it is the lord of the lagna nakshatra.
Also, the navamsa dispositor of Ju(lagnesh) is Sa. They are in exchange in D9.
Looking forward to your comments.

How would one advice a gemstone for someone who has one or more or even all three malefics,
Shani, Rahu and Mangal in the 9th house. And what if the 9th house is also lorded by one of these?
In that case, will wearing of the malefic’s stone be beneficial to luck, father etc. since it is 9th lord,
or will be otherwise since it is a malefic?

If I may comment on your chart:-

There are 3 curses in your chart, The primary curse if that of a brahmin caused by malefic
retrograde saturn (8th lord) and Mars having Graha Drishti on your jupiter in 3rd house. Jupiter is
karaka for Money and that can indicate problems with finances. To time the event we use moola
dasa and that started in Mar 2004 you started Saturn Moola dasa and being the worst malefic and
retrograde it is delievring the curse. Now the problem is retrograde curses are extremely hard to
remedy. Lord of the house is Me and he is in a secondary curse in the 7th house. But being in
kendra i believe that worshipping Maharishi Ved Vyasa with the mantra Vyam Vyasadevaya namah
everyday could provide some relief.
Visti ji has given a lecture on curses and i recommend you to hear that recording.

Regarding your education, First thing that your mercury is afflicted by Ke and Ra has drishti on it.
Second Ve is Badhaka which is afflicted and there is malefic in the 12th from it indicates Deva
Badhaka. Listen to lecture on devabadhaka and undertake the suggested remedies. Finally Jupiter is
also your 9th lord in D24 indicating college education

Maka
I see that Tarun has given some fine answers. Here is my train of thought.
Keep in mind that only Parivartana gives 100% results of the other planets. Hence, when
choosing gemstones discard conjunctions for starters. The yellow sapphire is very auspicious
for you, but wear it on the right hand-ring finger. Not index. This will help you in your
education.
Your Jupiter is afflicted by Saturn and Mars thus forming a curse of Brahmin from the past life.
Saturn is retrograde and is very malefic, and so also since 2004 you have been under the
Moola dasa of Saturn which is bringing the curse itself. This will bring tough times from
2004-2008 november atleast, and needs to be remedied by more than just gemstones.
Firstly, recite the Ganesha-damana mantra for bettering your education. the mantra for you is:
Gajananaaya Hum|.
Secondly, worship Vyasa to bring you out of the curse and ensure good knowledge and
education. The mantra is: Vyam Vyasadevaaya Namah|.
Do these in the order i have given. Start the Ganesha mantra for minimum 108 times from a
wednesday whilst the Vyasa mantra is started for 3×108 times from a Thursday morning. Wear
the yellow sapphire begining from that same Thursday as well.
If i were to advise anything more for the present period it would be to wear a gomedh on the
left hand for the current antaradasa of rahu… but stick to the above remedies for now.

Make sure that the graha (in this case Mercury) is un afflicted atleast and in a kendra.
Which mantra are you using? Hopefully the one Parasara advises from the Rg Veda.

When Moon is afflicted we can advise them to wear the blue sapphire to take them out of this.
How about a mantra?

Right now the biggest problem is Saturn dasa, as Saturn is vakra and has graha dristi on the
ninth house. This is not good and will give durbhagya if we don’t give a remedy. The standard
remedy is to wear an amethyst on the left hand middle finger. Make a pilgrimage to visit a
peetha of the shankaracharya and seek blessings for a good life ahead. Have you joined a
spiritual organisations? If not its time for this now.

Uff, i dread such cases. Jupiter is the main karaka for the ninth house, and so also Rahu is the
worst planet in the ninth. So if Rahu is there then he must be appeased first. Second is Saturn
and third is Mars. So to answer your question the yellow sapphire is a must.
As for lordship, I’ve seen that even a Saturn in ninth for Taurus lagna gave durbhagya during
saturn dasa.

You mentioned that because of Rahu is in the simhasana it will eclipse the house where Sun sits
(6th house) and you advised the wearing of a ruby (yes ruby) for sixth lord Sun to overcome the
problems with the battles/enemies.
Please, could you guide me about the following points. I considere this very important to study:
a)The majority of books don’t recommend to use gemstone of dushtanas lords (I have heard your
class about the example of two conjunct grahas: but that example is a special case in which
dushtana lord is acting as the other conjunct planet). Some authors suggest the use only in their
dasas when the lord is in own house. Is this statement correct? Or the only possibility is this one
when Rahu is in 10th ?
b)May the use of ruby give disease affecting nervous system (6th house) or heart (sun) or blood? If
not, why?
c)About the ruby for the native: is it possible to wear a substitute gemstone or only ruby?
d)Is it better to use a ruby ring in middle finger or a ruby pingent?
d)Is it possible to have access to the example of Kasinath Rao?
e)Gemstone affects the mind and has to be favorable to the body (ascendent). In this chart, Sun is
atmakaraka. Could it have some other positive effect?
f)About the mantra to the gemstone: could you indicate the best one for the native or it is enough
just follow the normal prescriptions to install the deity. I know that the ritual should be executed in
a Sunday.

No doubt the mothers mantras are best for the Moon. Yes Kali is quite suitable.

The example from Kasinath Rao is cited from my memory which only included the three
factors: Pisces lagna, Rahu in tenth and Sun in sixth. The reasoning was that if the Sun was not
strengthened then the court cases would not end.
And YES normally we should not advise the gems of Dusthana lords, but this is an exception.
The trick is knowing the exceptions. Btw. Simhasana is not just the tenth house. Do you know
the rest?
Even for Pisces Lagna its said that the Sun will never hurt the lagna as Jupiter and Sun are
natural friends. This is also important.
Ruby is the appropriate gemstone. It should be worn on the middle finger as this is the
Arthatrikona that we are trying to solve.

The mantra should be the Akrishnena rajasa vartamano… mantra from the Rg veda no doubt.
As far as gemstone pratishta is concerned, there also exists pujas like ‘Jeeva Nyasa’ which are
done on the gemstone to ensure that the native doesn’t incur physical harm from the
gemstone… regardless of which it is. This way there are lots of things that can be done to
make a gemstone auspicious

Dear Leoncio, Namaskar.
Simhasana is all the places where you can get rajayoga. First, tenth and fifth houses. Tenth is
the strongest among these, followed by Lagna and then fifth house.

Dear Rahul, Namaskar.
Normally this request doesn’t belong in a learning-section of a site, but i will answer just this
once.
In your chart the lord of Upapada is involved in a shraddha yoga in the eighth house. This
means the last rites of a paternal ancestor has not been performed properly and is inhibiting the
arranged marriage.
This makes the marriage very hard to come by, and specifically the nimitta has come through

the father-inlaw (Sun) who is opposing the marriage.

This requires you to perform three remedies:
1) Fast on every Saturday from sunrise to sunset.
2) Offer water to the Sungod whilst reciting the following mantra to appease the pitris: Om
Ghrini SuryaAditya|
3) If you are vegetarian then recite this mantra for Dhumavati given in the Diksha Prakasha.
Otherwise do not even read it:
धुं धूमावयै वाहा
dhuṁ dhūmāvatyai svāhā

I am little bit confused in the rules for prescription of gemstones.My birth details are as mentioned
below:
DOB: 5th June 1973,
TOB: 09:07:30AM
POB: Hanamkonda,India 79E38,18N01
I am born in cancer rash and cancer lagna with pushyami star.
In my horoscope venus,mercury and ketu are conjoined in gemini.
Venus and mercury just 2 degrees apart whereas mercury and ketu are 7 degrees apart.Now I am
venus/rahu period.
How will be the results of this conjunction ?
Could you pls clarify me the below points ?
1. Can I assume that for this conjunction we need to consider all the three planets and venus will
give the results of ketu and ketu that of venus whereas the effects of mercury will be unaltered. As I
am in venus maha dasa,if I wear a diamond, will it increase the bad effects of venus who is
representative of debilitated ketu in the effects.Many astrologers suggested me to wear a diamond
but when I use a diamond I faced many problems. Whereas when I used a cats eye I was more
comfortable.Few astrologers say that cats eye will give me prosperity because ketu is my yogi
planet.Pls note that in ven/ven/mer/ven period, i.e around 20-30th of Jan 2001, I faced the worst
situation of my life in my professional environment.Whenever I am in mercury sub or sub-sub
periods, I am facing many problems. Is there any exchange of results between venus and ketu ?
2.If we consider only venus and mercury for the conjunction, will venus exchange its results with
that of mercury ? If that is the case, is it advisable to wear an emerald for mercury as mercury
should give me the results of venus(lord of 4 & 11).
3.Do we need to consider the factors like avasthas and shastyamsa, 22nd dreekkana/64th Navamsa
lordship of the planets while suggesting the gemstones ?

Don’t wear neither diamond nor emerald to appease the dasa. Yellow Topaz or Yellow
Sapphire is very auspicious for you.

Dear Varsha, Namaskar.
We need more than the date of birth to draw a chart for horoscopy. If Mercury is in the eighth
house then you must have a birthtime and thus also a lagna… and a place of birth as well.
I would not recommend wearing an emerald for Mercury in the eighth unless you are suffering
from hormonal problems. If so then wearing an emerald and eating lots of greens and
iron-supplements will help.

mention few points for your kind notice.Whenever transit jupiter or mercury touched my natal
jupiter, I faced many problems in the profession.My A10 falls in sagi and retrograde & debilitated
jupiter is in 2nd from that A10.I thought that jupiter is troubling me and it is required to pacify
jupiter by giving dakshina to priests and fasting on thursdays.Pls clarify me on this point.
Pls let me know whether I can use a cats eye along with the yellow sapphire.Will a cats eye give me
good effects of venus(considering the conjunction) ? Ketu is 3rd from AL as well !!

Dear Srikanth, Namaskar.
Dasa nor Transit results of a planet will not tell you whether that planet needs a gemstone or
not. Jupiter is your ninth lord and is supposed to support you, but is unable due to his peculiar
placement in Capricorn. Hence bad results come as the ninth lord is unable to protect you. By
wearing the Yellow Sapphire you are increasing his protective and blessing influence on your.

Cats eye should be worn on the middle finger in case of wearing a yellow sapphire as well, but
instead i would advise you to worship Vishnu to ensure that your future progresses smoothly.

1).Is there any specific weights of the gem stones yellow sapphire and cats eye to be worn.I
understand that I need to wear cats eye on RIGHT HAND middle finger and yellow sapphire on

By considering the conjunction of three planets jupiter,debilitated venus and saturn, which

with 6th house indicates abhicara(black magic).Here in my horoscope moon as lord of 9th house for

9th lord association with 6th house in Aries-You seek truth(or your personal philosophy) through
work or service related to health which is original and inspiring to others.Rahu in 9th gives an
intense craving to form a personal philosophy in this life or your personal philosophy is original and
unconventional. And Cancer on the cusp of 9th house shows that its the emotional body rather than

Do this:
1. Let the ring soak in milk overnight.
2. On a Thursday morning put the ring in your left hand, put a yellow flower, and white
sandalwood paste on the ring and cover the same with your right hand.
3. Recite this mantra 108 times:

य)ीदय+छवसऽऋत.जात तदमासु / वणंधे0ह 1च3म ्॥

Then wash the ring and wear it on your right hand ring finger. Then things should be fine.

Even if you should wear the Lapiz Lazuli, to avoid the negative effects of the same arising,
you should make sure the mantra and puja to the ring is performed properly. Do the same as i
have advised Srikanth above, but perform the Shani-Gayatri from the Rg Veda instead and
offer blue flowers. This should be done on a Saturday.

Your Darakaraka is Rahu, showing that a severe shock can come from relationships, that too
being that he is placed in Marana Karaka Sthana. You should indeed wear a Yellow
Sapphire/Topaz for this, on your right hand ring finger.
But, sorrow will always follow you as your Saturn is Atmakaraka, showing that you gave
sorrow to others in past life and in this life must take the sorrow of everyone else and not pass
it on to others… This is not an easy task and for this we must as the help of Shiva to drink the

Forget anything else. You have Kala Sarpa Dosha and this is your main problem. Wear a
diamond for your ninth lord and start worshiping Brighu to start breaking the same yoga. The
mantra is: Om Bhargavaaya Namah. Do this sincerely and imbibe the diamond with the
Shukra-gayatri given in the Rg Veda on a Friday morning. Otherwise get a pujari to do the
same for you. Remember it should be with the Rg veda mantra for Shukra.

What is most important is the Devata who sits inside the gemstone. So really if you want a
gemstone to give its full effects ensure that the relevant puja/mantra has been performed for it.
Otherwise in reality the gem may be no more worth than glass when we talk of remedial

1. Study the arudha lecture. Benefics in the 3rd and 6th from AL cause loss of their
significations.
2. If a gemstone is worn with the right mantras it will never harm.

Its not advised to wear these gemstones, but it is for this reason that Jeeva-nyasa is normally
added to the imbibing of the gemstone to avoid such problems.

the 10th house Sun,Mars and Mercury are conjoined and he wore a red coral to get the benefits of
Mercury considering the conjunction of all three planets(mercury should exchange its results with
that of mars).But if we notice, there is a parivartana between mars and saturn in his navamsa.So
mars should give the results of saturn who is placed in the 12th house and saturn that of mars(as per

We cannot wear just any gemstone on the middle/madhyama finger for this. But yes, wearing
gemstones/rings on the middle finger increases the artha-ayana for wealth, career, work, etc.
Similarly:

ratna some queries has cropped in my mind, for solving the same I am with you again . So the
queries are as below—
First query –My birth nakstra is svati-first- pad and ruled by malifiec rahu and said rahu is also in
my bhagya .i.e in ninth house . So my query is ,can I wear gulmedh (rahu stone ) in my left hand so

My elder son who’s date of birth is 11 feb 1968 at 8:45 pm chandigarh ,India (degree 76 E 47′, 30 N
44′ ) is facing lot of hardship in his life . And on analyzing , as per your lesions, his birth chart reveal
some interesting facts which are required to be discussed with u —
Briefly my son has done B.E (civil ) in good marks and for the past 12 years he is unemployed and
remains at home ( even he himself do not try to find job) ,during this period he got married and
same marriage has to annulled due to medical impossibility of his spouse ………….Now if from
badhaka point of view I found his asendent is vergo and his badhaka is pisces and badhakes .ie.
jupitor is in 12 house in leo rashi and saturan , rahu . mars are in pisces and are acting like badhakes
and further placement of ketu in lagna raises the suspension of some evil sprit or black magic
……….and from ratna point of view his lagan lord is in 8 th house which is again not good .

I would like to tell you about an experience I had with it.This was in the prvious year November
when I went to Hampi,former capital of Vijayanagara empire to attend an interview.Hampi was
known for its gem stone and diamond trade in those days.Gems and diamonds were sold on streets
of Hampi as ice cream or popcorn. Now also there are few traders in Hampi.I visited a gem shop.I
asked him to show the gemstones he had.One stone of the size of table tennis ball attracted my
attention. It was sky blue.I felt an instant happiness when I had it in my hand.The trader told me it

If I can clarify:
Gems are best worn as per Ascendant /5th or 9th Lord , or else depending upon the chart. A certain
MD may not be good for the native, hence overall chart must be seen.
Jupiter always blesses, however its effect may not be materialistic but spiritual. It will depend upon
its position in a chart, how much blessing it is giving.

consult you because I may have Kaal Sarp in my chart. Some people think that the Kaal Sarp is

Sir after lot of thought and studies I came to conclusion ,that why feeroza suited me ,as per
astrology the third house is known as The 3rd house is an UPACHAYA or growing house, this
means that planets in the 3rd house grow stronger and more prominent as the year’s goes by. It also
means that malefic planets (SUN, MARS, SATURN, RAHU, AND KETU) are well placed in the
3rd house and give primarily good results. The 3rd house corresponds to an air sign GEMINI and is
therefore a KAMA house relates to desires. And in my horoscope the ketu is placed in 3rd house
and as per astrology the gem stone for ketu is cat eye and substitute gem is feeroza , and further as

So you are Scorpio lagna with Mercury and Venus in eighth house and Rahu in ninth. Are you
sure that the placement of Venus in the eighth is a major problem? It guarantees good health to
spouse because of the strength of Mercury. Do not wear the gemstone of a maraka.
Aredaman
Normally activation of ANY planet in an Upachaya is strongly warned against. The Upachaya
shows the intellect of man which it acts on WITHOUT the blessings of God. Its our free will
and malefics in these houses make us TAKE from the world and benefit, but this adds to our
balance of bad karma.
For Gemini lagna Ketu’s stone is not advised normally, as Ketu gets debilitated in Gemini’s
sign. But, in your case Ketu in the third is removing the papaargala of Saturn on the lagna,
whose placement in the eleventh in debility is not auspicious.
So for that reason it can act auspiciously.
As an additional note. Do not wear gemstones of the second, third or eighth houses in the
Somanatha Drekkana. Ketu is lord of fifth and placed in fifth in the S3 which is good in your
chart.

Venus in third causes Bhagya yoga. A diamond would be BEAUTIFUL for you to wear. Your
anxiety arises from you not accepting ‘Venus’ in your life. Ladies should not wear the red
ruby, but instead the pink ruby, as this is easier for their constitution.

You risk Rajbhanga yoga by wearing a Blue Sapphire. Best overall remedy would be to wear
an Emerald on the middle finger of right hand, installed in gold metal.
I would not recommend Blue Sapphire on neither left nor right hand for you.

My health is an issue for me(especially stomach and stress related issue), I am currently
unemployed, unmarried, persuing my education after a long gap,have also encountered some super
natural events, etc.

Would appreciate if you can help me how to work out the remedy for my chart, What i would want
to know is how should i handle the MKS of Guru (3rd) & Rahu (9th).
I have aquarius lagna and my mars is also in debilition.
1) Should i take that Jupiter will destroy the 2nd and 11th house signification and Rahu will destroy
the lagna signification. Mecury in 4th will this cause also cause an MKS
2) Will the night birth take Rahu out of MKS.
3) Also the venus the badhaka is with Guru.So will this venus affect the significations of Guru or
will Rahu sitting in afflict the 9th house and take the role of badhaka.

In my horoscope, there is a amsa parivartana between mars and venus and another one between
Jupiter and Mercury.Vimsottari dasa calculated from utpanna star gives me the correct results.I
noticed whenever I was in venus period, I saw many good things happening in my life and lot of
income.Similarly whenever I was in mars period, I faced many bitter experiences.Here venus is in
12th house from lagna and mars in the eigth house.Is venus giving the results of yogakaraka mars
due to amsa parivartana? If so, is it advisable to wear a diamond for venus to get the +ve results of
mars ?
But venus is in 3rd house from AL and mars is 11th from AL.Please let me know how this
parivartan will work for me.

Thanks for the reply.May be thats in theory.But in my real life it was the opposite.may be it may
grant good health to spouse.but i faced strife and emotional trauma.I dont know whether its Sun in
the 7th or the 7th lord venus(retrograde)in 8th along with 8th lord mercury .Is it the Rahu in the
9th(general fortune)?Awaiting your valuable insight in to this.As prescibed would also like to know
about the size of golden eggs to be offered for Rahu in 9th.

… is it a gem for brihaspati or gem for shukra ? In ur lectures somewhere i heard it represent s the

I don’t think Mercury is bad for you, but Sun and Ketu sure are. By wearing an emerald you
risk strengthening these negative planets and giving financial issues to spouse. Hence why
people woul advise you against wearing an emerald.

1. If there is only graha dristi, then effects of the aspect of Saturn/Rahu is only temporary.
Then only during the Dasa/Antaradasa of the specific planet would you need to wear a
gemstone, and only of either Blue Sapphire (Saturn) or Hessonite (Rahu) on the LEFT hand
and only during their Dasas/Antaradasas.
