NO ORDINARY CHILD

Exodus 2:1-10
With what amazing faith her hands had made –
And now let down into the waters edge
Her son who might have died by cruelty!

With what care her hands had crafted

That small boat pushed out amongst the reeds
Designed for comfort and security –
But placed in jeopardy at God’s plan!

With what tenderness abandoned to His care

The child her eyes had recognised as great –
Full of possibility and full of fear!

He was no ordinary child – and she

No ordinary mother but a woman
Of extraordinary faith – faith in the face
Of danger and in the presence of disaster.

So she receives him back – with interest

To care for in his youngest years
Until he is surrendered to a stranger –
Still in God’s care – no ordinary child.
