The beauty of the New Covenant is the understanding of the grace of God, the love of Jesus, and the desire it produces in us to walk a life of repentance. Repentance is not a onetime deal; it’s a lifestyle. We all fall short. We all sin. We all need to be forgiven.
Repentance is a result of godly sorrow for our sins. When we truly understand the sacrificial love of Christ, we will feel grieved in our spirit when we offend him. We will feel sorrow when we walk in a way that is counter to His leading, His precepts, and His laws. We cannot grasp the depths of His love and continue on in a sinful lifestyle. Why? Because our own heart will condemn us. Yes, our heart will feel condemned. The Holy Spirit comes and convicts us. He encourages us to turn from our sin and be reunited to God.
If we understand the cross, we begin to see the power in it to pull us out of our sinful lifestyle. True repentance will break strongholds or mindsets that are destructive in our life. Repentance will cause us to be freed of deep‐seated issues that hold us down. Repentance will cause us to walk in freedom from oppression. Repentance is a powerful tool that can bring us closer to our risen Savior.
