1. Define spirituality.

Spirituality is a process of self- discovery by giving meaning, purpose and direction to

life. Spirituality is an accumulation of life experiences and insights. Spirituality takes

place over the time and involves the accumulation of life experiences combined with the

new understanding with every new experience. (Wilknson & Leuven 2007 p248)

2. Define religion.

Religion is a cultural system that creates powerful and long-lasting meaning, by

establishing symbols that relate humanity to truths and values. Many religions have

narratives, symbols, traditions and sacred histories that are intended to give meaning to

life or to explain the origin of life or the universe. They tend to derive morality, ethics,

religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human

nature. Religion, sometimes used interchangeably with faith, is commonly defined as

belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the practices and institutions

associated with such belief. In its broadest sense some have defined it as the sum total of

answers given to explain humankind's relationship with the universe. (Wilknson &

3. How would you describe spirituality?

Spirituality is awareness about oneself and giving goal to life with the right moral

conduct.

4. What does nurse do to provide spiritual care?

Every individual have different level in terms of spirituality .Patient spirituality can be

different from nurses. As a nurse one should be careful for not impose their belief on

patient .As a nurse we can create perfect atmosphere so that patient can express their

feelings. Help the patient to understand the reason of guilt. Encourage the family

members to support patient need and understand the patient need. Put patient into

comfortable position and listen to the stories. Collaborate the dietary department, social

worker and chapels according to their need .Respect patient feeling like dress determined

by religious belief.
