Former Edmonton mayoral candidate raising funds for homeless youth

Bonar to run from Calgary to Edmonton

Edmonton, AB – Former mayoral candidate Daryl Bonar is taking on a different campaign this month and one that he
is passionately advocating.

Bonar is kicking off a fundraiser for high risk youth on May 22 at 11 a.m. by running from Calgary to Edmonton
within five days. His goal is to raise awareness and funds for the Youth Emergency Shelter Society’s (YESS) Homeless
for a Night event. The run will end at TELUS Field on May 27 at 9 p.m. in conjunction with the YESS Homeless for a
Night. Bonar will then participate in the YESS event.

“The work that YESS partakes in is very close to my heart. High risk youth is an issue that I am choosing to raise
awareness about. The inspirational stories of these kids and the little miracles that the staff of YESS do day in and
day out will carry me across 400 kilometres,” said Bonar.

As one of the founders of ‘Da Bomb Squad’, a youth program that helps at risk youth learn about leadership and life
skills, Bonar understands the issues that YESS clients face.

“The Youth Emergency Shelter Society is so pleased to have the support of Daryl Bonar. His desire to alleviate
homelessness and bring awareness to the plight of at-risk youth is, of course, very near and dear to our hearts. Not
only will his run from Calgary to Edmonton in support of Homeless for a Night bring in much needed pledge dollars,
but it also brings a great deal of awareness to what we hope will be a key event in Edmonton’s future,” said Deb
Cautley, Executive Director, Youth Emergency Shelter Society.

Bonar and his support of diehard volunteers will be stopping in Calgary, Airdrie, Crossfield, Carstairs, Olds, Bowden,
Innisfail, Penhold, Red Deer, Blackfalds, Lacombe, Morningside, Ponoka, Hobbema, Wetaskiwin, Millet, Leduc,
Nisku and Edmonton during the five-day run. They will be camping along the way.
