Ifa "2" is displayed there when an E6 occurs, it indicates a "code 2" E6. This document gives some troubleshooting techniques according to the code of the E6. Test software is available for the lasers that will not put the laser in standby mode when an E6 occurs. Instead, it displays "LO" in the treatment power window of the front panel when an E6 occurs. Some lasers have test software that displays "OP(code)" instead of "LO" when an E6 occurs so that the code of the E6 is also displayed. The test software should only be used to calibrate the laser power and troubleshoot E6 diagnostic codes. After these tasks are REMEMBER completed, the test software should be Replace the test software with customer replaced with non-test software and the laser | software after troubleshooting, should be re-checked to verify that ES calibrating, and repairing the laser diagnostic codes no longer occur. The test | system software keeps the beeper on at all times so that the test software will not be left in the laser accidentally. ‘When you get an E6, check the following before trying other troubleshooting methods: Verify that the laser power has been calibrated Verify that CTMON is between OmV and +20mV when not firing -Measure between the CTMON and GND? test points on the Cap. Board -Adjust R12 on the Cap. Board to adjust the voltage if necessary -Verify that the lower current limit has been set properly -Measure between U9-5 and TP1 (GND1) on the PWM Board ~The voltage should be between .8VDC and 1.0VDC If the above checks have been made, then continue on with these other troubleshooting methods: Code 0: Hardware E6 from the OVRPWR signal on the PWM Board Problem: “code 0" E6 Cause: ‘The PWRCON signal is tuned down too low Solution: _Recalibrate PWRCON by adjusting R22 on the CPU Board. Measure the voltage between TP2 (GND) and the accessible side of R4 on the CPU Board. While in standby mode, adjust R22 until the voltage is close to the HM Field Service Technical Reference Manat Page 1-47 HGM Confidential and Proprietary Information for Internal Use Only specified value (see Table 1.9) Cause: One of the power FETs on the 27 Amp Board (Q1,2,3,4,6,7,8, or 9) is shorted. To test this, remove the 27 Amp board and measure the resistance between pins 1 and 3 on one of these FETs. Ifit is less than IMA, this could be your problem. Solution: _Replace the shorted FET or the 27 Amp Board Codel: LGTFBK1 is grounded Problem: "code 1" E6 Cause: ING threshold is too low Solution: Change R10 on the CPU Board to | CAUTION: This should only be done 12kQ or change under advisement from in-house engineers R9 on the CPU Board to 33kQ or 45.3kQ Cause: +12VR and/or -12VR voltage supplies are not getting to the Light Card or are being shorted. Check pin 4 of Ul and U3 on the Light Card for -12VDC and pin 8 of U1 and U3 for +12VDC. Use pin 5 on the ribbon cable connector for your GND test point. Make sure the ribbon cable between the O.D. and control module is making good contact on both ends. Solution: Locate the bad connection or other source of the problem Cause: Improper modifications to the Control Module. Check the modifications as ‘outlined below for the various boards. Check the LGTFBK1 and LGTEBK2 signals where they connect to US on the Interface Board while firing in continuous mode. (The LGTFBK1 signal is at US-7 (membrane)/US-5 (mechanical). The LGTFBK2 signal is at US-10 (membrane)/US-6 (mechanical). Use the Analog Ground test point for GND) Make sure neither of these signals stays at OVDC while firing the laser. Solution: Repair the modifications to the Control Module Cause: ‘The +12V supply is bad or it isn't getting to U8 on the interface Board. ‘Make sure U8-11 on the Interface Board is at ground and that UB-4 is at +12VDC. Solution: Isolate and repair problem Cause: RB on the Light Card is adjusted all the way counter-clockwise or | NOTE: If this was the case, both R8 and R17 are adjusted all | the laser power would not be the way counter-clockwise, calibrated correctly Solution: Adjust R8 and/or R17 on the HGM Field Service Technical Reference Manual Page 1-48 ‘Cause: Solution: Code 2: Problem: Cause: Solution: Cause: Solution: Cause: Solution: ‘Cause: HGM Confidential and Proprietary information for Internal Use Only Light Card clockwise until the laser is calibrated and LGTFBK2 is tracking LGTEBK. LGTFBK1 is grounded or shorted to something. Check the LGTFBK1 signal entering US on the Interface Board (Measure between US-7 (for units with a membrane front panel), or US-5_ (for units with a mechanical front panel) and the Analog Ground test point) while firing in continuous mode to see if it remains at OVDC when firing or if tis always at some fixed voltage. Locate the source of the short or open circuit and repair/replace. A component might have failed also. ‘LGTFBK2 exceeds LGTFBK1 by 1VDC “code 2" E6 EGTFBK2 exceeds LGTFBK1 by I1VDC Verify that the laser power is calibrated properly over the full range. Set the power somewhere in the middle of its range and adjust R17 on the Light Card while firing in continuous mode so that LGTFBK2 matches LGTFBK. (Measure between pin 1 and pin 13 on the Light Card ribbon cable connector. Fire the laser and adjust R17 until you measure less than 10mY between these points) Check points all along the power range of the laser to verify that the difference between LGTFBK1 and LGTFBK2 is within tolerance (<1VDC). Dual photo-diode on Light Card is not functioning properly. It may be shorting to the Light Card, the O.D., the wobble plate, etc. Monitor the LGTFBK1 (between pin 5 and pin 1 on the ribbon cable connector) and LGTFBK2 (between pin 5 and pin 13 on the ribbon cable connector) signals while firing and while wiggling the Light Card around to see if either signal exceeds SVDC. Replace the dual-photodiode or isolate and repair the cause of the short. Replace the Light Card or O.D. ifnecessary. UB on the Interface Board is bad. Check if the U8 voltage followers are operating properly. To do this, measure the voltage between the following points on the Interface Board while firing. The voltage should not exceed 10mv: U8-10 and U8-8 U8-12 and U8-14 UB8-6 and U8-7 U8-2 and U8-1 Replace U8 or the Interface Board Incorrect modifications in the Control Module. Repair the incorrect modification(s). LGTFBKI exceeds PWRCON by more than 20% of the maximum PWRCON value for the model and laser light wavelength being used “code 4" E6 The laser power is out of calibration. Calibrate the laser power PWRCON gain and LGTFBKI gain aren't matched Verify that the laser power is calibrated. Turn the laser off and on and monitor PWRCON (between TP2 and the accessible side of R4 on the CPU Board) before firing the laser. Record the value. Change the value of R37 on the PWM Board based on CAUTION: This should PWRCON as follows. IfPWRCON is | Only be done under higher than its specified value (see advisement from in- Table 1.9), then replace R37 with a house engineers lower-valued resistor. If PWRCON is lower than its specified value, then replace R37 with a higher-valued resistor. ING signal on CPU Board is being asserted at a current level that is too low. If this is the cause, you will probably get E6 errors only at low power settings (less than .3 Watts). Adjust the CTMON offset (Adjust R12 on the Cap. Module Board while measuring the voltage between the CTMON and GND2 test points ) so ‘that CTMON is between OmVDC and +20mVDC when not firing the laser.
