THE HISTORY OF MUSIC

Through out the Decades

Through out history, Music has played a large part; it has divided
cultures, groups, and still is a major installation in modern life today;
these days in modern society, you are judged on taste, likings and
dislikes; this probably would of been the same, many hundreds of
years ago.

Music has changed over the decades, from the very first creation of a
beat, a hum, a mimic of an animal, or a groan that transformed into a
tune; to a full symphony created by, string, woodwind, percussion
(Drums), and various other instruments, that were invented over the
years.

If we look back into history, and take a look at music and the era, the
clothing, the mind set, it all roles into one bundle; music, it made
every thing stand out in its own way, it made things sell, it reacted
with feelings, and made the listener think “yes this is what I like”,
“this reflects what I’m feeling”, “its awesome, radical, tubular”.

Take a look at the 60’s, what comes to mind when some one says
that statement

“Take a look at the 60’s”

The first thing that may pop into your mind, is probably the wacky
cool music, wood stock, hippies, free spirits, marijuana, PEACE, LOVE,
and the radical fashion, colour’s and the rebellious nature of the
people in that era, that groove, that MUSIC GENERATION.

This is the same with the 70’s 80’s 90’s, they’re all MUSIC
GENERATIONS. These generations all revolved around the same
thing, “MUSIC” the wonderful creation of story telling through the
power of songs and tunes, which interact with people’s emotions,
their life, and pathways they chose.

Music has a lot of power, its everywhere, in movies, TV (ads,

programs, news etc.), Radio, on the street, it’s on every corner,
around the bend in a nearby café. Its apart of modern and historical
life. Listen to a TV advert; they’ll probably have a tune, or a sound
that cues the subconscious mind, that thinks, “Ahh that’s the IKEA
advert”.

You could almost go into NLP with this topic, (NLP – Neuro Linguistic
Programming) meaning programming of subconscious or conscious
mind using, sounds, touch, smell, or words, and other things, NLP is
used in sale jobs, real-estate, TV adverts, Radio, and every day life.

In Movies or TV programs, when the director wants you to feel what

is supposed to be felt (emotions) they use music, dramatic, action, or
a sad sound, if that’s what the scene is about, it’s a technique to try
and get the viewer, sucked in, feeling what should be felt, giving the
viewer more to think about, to be more engaged. This is also the
same when listening to music through head phones, say your day
was bad, boring and you felt depressed, you turn on the radio, and
depends what mood your in the song that’s on can change or reflect
on what you are feeling, by change I mean make you happy from sad
and by reflect I mean you agree with the lyrics, they match your day
or feelings.

The point that I’m trying to get across in this, if you could say
“article” , is that music has made its impression on life, its what gives
life an edge, changes emotions, feelings etc. it’s a cultural path, and
will change through out the decades to come.
