This describes the power distribution mode of the BTS3900C, which supports -48 V DC input,
220 V AC single-phase input, and 110 V AC dual-live line input.
l The DC power distribution principle of the BTS3900C is as follows:
1. Connecting external -48 V DC power supply to the DCDU
2. The DCDU distributes power for the BTS.
Figure 3-1 shows the DC power distribution principle of the BTS3900C.
This describes the clock synchronization modes of the BTS. The BTS supports various clock
sources, such as the GPS/GLONASS clock source, RGPS interface clock source, BITS clock
source, Abis interface clock source, and internal clock source.
Table 4-1 lists the clock synchronization modes supported by the BTS.
GPS/GLONASS The BTS provides the GPS/GLONASS clock input port and obtains
clock source clock signals through the external GPS/GLONASS equipment.
RGPS clock source The BTS provides the RGPS interface and obtains clock signals
through the external RGPS equipment.
BITS clock source The BBU3900 provides the 2.048 MHz BITS clock port to support
the BITS clock mode.
Abis interface clock The BBU3900 supports the extraction of clock signals directly from
source ports such as the E1/T1 port. The clock module performs frequency
division, phase locking, and phase adjustment for the clock signals.
In this way, accurate 2 MHz and 8 KHz clock signals are obtained
and used for frame synchronization and bit synchronization inside
the BTS.
Internal clock signals When external clock sources are not available, the oscillators of the
BBU3900 boards provide 10 MHz clock signals to guarantee the
normal running of the BTS.
This describes the transmission and networking of the BTS. The networking modes supported
by the BTS include the start networking mode, chain networking mode, and tree networking
mode.
Application Scenarios
As the most commonly used networking mode, the star networking mode is especially applicable
to densely populated areas.
Advantages
l The BTS is directly connected to the BSC, thus guaranteeing simplicity in networking and
convenience in engineering, maintenance, and capacity expansion.
l Data transmission is implemented directly between the BTS and the BSC, and therefore
signals do not have to go through many nodes. In this way, the reliability of the line is high.
Disadvantages
The star networking modes requires more transmission resources than other networking modes.
Application Scenarios
The chain networking mode is applicable to sparsely populated strip areas, for example, areas
along superhighways and railways.
Figure 5-2 shows the chain networking mode.
Advantages
The chain networking mode helps reduce the costs of transmission equipment, of engineering
construction, and of transmission link rental.
Disadvantages
l Signals go through a large number of nodes, and therefore the line reliability is low.
l Faults in upper-level BTSs may affect the normal operation of lower-level BTSs.
l The number of chain levels cannot exceed three.
Application Scenarios
The tree networking mode is applicable to areas where network structures, site distribution, and
subscriber distribution are complicated, for example, areas where subscribers are widely
distributed and hot spots gather.
Figure 5-3 shows the tree networking mode.
Advantages
The transmission cable loss in tree networking mode is less than that in star networking mode.
Disadvantages
l Signals travel through many nodes, which cause low transmission reliability and
construction and maintenance difficulties.
l Faults in upper-level BTSs may affect the normal operation of lower-level BTSs.
l Capacity expansion is difficult because it may require extensive network reconstruction.
l The number of tree levels cannot exceed three.
This describes the operation and maintenance of the BTS. The operation and maintenance of the
BTS refers to the management, monitoring, and maintenance of the BTS. The DBS3900 provides
various methods and platforms for operation and maintenance to cater to different scenarios.

subscriber authentication and encryption, and forward and reverse resolution of interface
messages.
Alarm Management
Alarm management refers to equipment alarm management and environment alarm
management.
l Equipment alarm management
The equipment is monitored in real time. When a fault or exception occurs, an alarm is
reported, and the alarm management function of the LMT or M2000 is used to display the
alarm information and give suggestions for handling the alarm.
The alarm management system of the M2000 is connected to an alarm box through the
serial port and supports both audible and visual alarms. The user can subscribe to the alarms.
When an alarm is generated, it is sent to the mobile phones or pagers of maintenance
personnel so that the maintenance personnel can obtain the information of the fault or
exception in time.
l Environment alarm management
Generally, the equipment room of the BTS are sparsely distributed and not attended.
Compared with the equipment room of an exchange, the equipment room of the BTS has
fewer and simpler facilities, and the equipment runs in harsh environments. Besides,
accidents such as water damage and fire may occur in the equipment room. The BTS has
a powerful environment monitoring subsystem, which guarantees the normal running of
equipment and helps you deal with emergencies.
