technology to produce images.

in liquid crystal displays (LCDs).

phosphor to give the impression of white light.
° White LEDs are used most often in laptops &
desktop screens, and in mo ile LCD screens.

° RGB LEDs consist of a red, a lue, and a green LED
and can e controlled to produce different
temperatures of white.
V LED- acklit LCD TVs differ from conventional
CCFL- acklit LCD TVs in the following:

0 Produce images with greater dynamic contrast.

° Because LEDs are a le to e switched on and off more
quickly than CCFL displays and can offer a higher light
output, it is theoretically possi le to offer very high
contrast ratios. They can produce deep lacks (LEDs off)
and a high rightness (LEDs on).

0 uffer a wider colour gamut, especially when RGB-

LED acklighting is used.
° This was possi le ecause the com ined light output
from red, green and lue LEDs produces a more pure
white light than is possi le with a single white light LED.
0 Less environmental pollution on disposal.
° rnlike CCFL acklights, LEDs also use no
mercury in their manufacture.

0 They can e extremely slim.

0 Higher price.

0 Generally 20-30% lower power consumption.
