IYCN and EcoReco

E-waste Project
The Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) is a network uniting Indian youth
and youth oriented organisations who are concerned about climate change &
environment issues.

IYCN has active members in 16 states of the country and has partner
networks/ organisations in other states of India. Registered in July 2009, IYCN
has approximately 200 coordinators and volunteers with outreach to
thousands of youth in colleges, schools, corporations and institutions in India.

Few of the most successful projects of IYCN in the past have been – Climate
Solutions Road Tour, Climate Leadership Trainings, Agents of Change etc.

Goal: To channelize E-waste from the city to those E-Waste Recyclers who
follow international standards.

Studies show that substantial Electronic waste goes to traditional scrap

vendors or even to landfills. This is causing irrepairable harm to health and
environment.

Through a long term partnership with EcoReco, IYCN as part of India's civil
society plans eradicate this problem through a two tier programme:

1. Awareness campaigns in the city thorugh workshops and

presentations, primarily targetted to youth, focussing on impacts of
chaneling the E-waste to landfills and other environment unfriendly
ways.

2. Paralelly, provide an alternative E-waste dispopsing channel to the

above people.

• The simplest way of doing this is to install special E-waste bins

at community living sites, and connecting the community with
EcoReco.
