Lesson Plan

Course: Physical Education 7

Summative Assessment: Students will demonstrate knowledge of the rules and


procedures of bowling while demonstrating skill-
proficiency and sportsmanship during game-play.

Unit: Bowling

Indicators: Students will demonstrate acceptable form and effectiveness in the


execution of motor skills to participate successfully in specified
individual, partner, team, and rhythmic activities.

Objective: Students will observe and practice proper grip, stance, and delivery in
order to roll a ball down the lane and make contact with the pins.

Materials: 6 sets containing bowling lane, bowling ball, and pins.

Formative Assessment:

Students will demonstrate proficiency by successfully rolling a bowling ball down


the lane and making contact with at least one pin at least 80% of the time.

Differentiated Instruction:

Students demonstrating deficiencies will receive small group and/or individual


instruction.

Scoring Tool:

A checklist will be used to assess each student’s performance level.

PROCEDURE: Suggested Time


Warm-Up: Students perform various stretches and exercises 4 min.
to prepare for the activity.

Motivation: What do you know about bowling? Describe bowling. Background.


Review objective. 3 min

Direct Instruction: Share with the student the definitions of grip, stance, delivery, and
lane.

Inform students that they will be learning how to roll a bowling ball in order to strike the
pins. 5 min.
Guided Practice: Divide students into six groups. Each student 8 min.
will practice rolling the ball while the teacher provides feedback and guidance.
Independent Practice: Students will continue practicing grip, stance, and delivery while
self-evaluating their performance. 5 min.
Formative Assessment: Students will demonstrate proficiency by 5 min.
successfully rolling a bowling ball and striking the pins.
Closure/Next Steps: Revisit the objective/ Next step: Rules of the 1 min.
Game.
Homework: Write a paragraph summarizing what you learned in class 1 min.
today.
Differentiation: Students demonstrating deficiencies will receive small group, peer,
and/or individual instruction.

Students demonstrating advanced skills will assist students needing help.
