Advantages and disadvantages of being a

teenager
Everyone was a teenager once and went through that period. Young people always
complain that they would like to be already grown up but I know that many already
grown up people would like to be a teenager again. Well there are a few advantages
and disadvantages of being a teenager which I'm going to discuss.
A first advantage is that every teenager can be carefree. They do not have to
worry about anything. Teenagers can live and enjoy their life fully and leave the
problems to their parents and stay with the biggest problem for them - school and
learning, which has to be faced anyway.
Secondly, teenagers do not have any suppression. They only have to go to school
and worry about their lessons. They can just go out with friends, go shopping, go to
parties or just lay and get some relax. To cut a long story short they can do
whatever they want to do.
Despite the many advantages, there are also some disadvantages.
First of all, young people are much dependable on their parents. They cannot take
any decisions, they cannot decide of their own life. Sometimes when the parents
are really over-protective, teenagers cannot even choose the school they want to
go to.
Apart from that, teenagers have to go through adolescence which is a very hard
and difficult period. These endless changes of mood are very frustrating. In that
period, teenagers are very annoying, which makes communication with older people
quite difficult.
Summing up, I think that being a teenager is a great thing. I can see definitely
more advantages than disadvantages. Maybe people at that age are more difficult
to understand and they are very irritating but otherwise they can enjoy the life
and do not have to worry about anything. When it comes to me, I could stay in that
magical age for ever.

Do celebrities deserve their high incomes?

While I can appreciate that celebrities and sports figures provide us with
entertainment, I believe that their pay is far too high considering the contribution
that they make. I blame this on our society and its misguided values. I feel that if
we are to place a great value and a high degree of admiration on someone, it should
be on someone that we rely on to survive, such as the medical professionals that we
depend on to save the life of a loved one in an emergency, or the law enforcement
officers on whom we depend to keep our families safe, or the teachers who we
count on to educate our children, or the military personnel who we rely on to
preserve our freedoms. Even the guy who pushes the shopping carts from the
parking lot to the entrance of the supermarket does more to make our lives easier
than do celebrities.
Someone is conducting an interview and asked me what are the advantages and
disadvantages of ebooks. Here are my answers, based on years of experience with
ebooks, both as a customer and as a creator.

Ebooks are basically text, images, and even audio/video packaged into a single
electronic file. For example, if you type a document in MS Word (or OpenOffice
Writer), then save that document, that is already an ebook.

While an ebook can exist in different formats (i.e., PDF, EXE-compiled HTML
pages, PDA format), they usually share similar advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of Ebooks

1. Multimedia format. Unlike your usual printed books, ebooks can contain not only
text and images, but also audio and even video. This way, if the reader isn't the
type of person who likes to read paragraphs of text, he or she can choose to listen
to the audio version.

Some ebooks even have flash applications that allow the reader to "interact" with
the contents (i.e., drag images around using the mouse). This is useful for
kinesthetic learners.

2. No shipping cost. Since we're dealing with electronic files, you can simply
download them from the web. There's no need to ship any physical product halfway
around the globe, and you won't have to wait as long as you normally would when
ordering books from, say, Amazon.

3. Searchable. A number of ebooks sport a Search button, which allows you to

quickly jump to the page containing the word you're interested in. Ever try opening
a dictionary (the printed one)? Try an electronic version and marvel at the speed
of the search feature.

4. Low update cost. When the author needs to update certain parts of the ebook,
she simply edits the electronic document, saves the updated version, and then
informs customers about the new release.

The customers are either sent to the download page on the web, or are emailed the
new version.

In the case of a printed book, the publisher will probably have to make a minimum
production run of 1000 copies. This takes time and money.
Disadvantages of Ebooks

1. Printing cost. It's painful to read off a screen, and some people prefer to read
text on paper. If you distribute an ebook, your customers will most likely print it.
And if your ebook is quite long, the printing cost will be shouldered by your
readers.

A printed book, on the other hand, is already bound and ready to take anywhere.

2. Piracy. In the printed book world, people who want to "share" your book will
photocopy it, and then send it to their friends. With ebooks, your file can be easily
emailed to someone living thousands of miles away. It can even be placed in a public
server for anyone to download.

3. Not convenient to read. Who wants to sit in front of a computer or screen for
hours just reading your ebook, right? Aside from gaining weight, sitting for
prolonged periods of time can cause muscle strain, backache, and even an elevated
cholesterol level.

With paper books, you can easily read even while standing (inside the elevator, for
example). That's not the case with ebooks.

One of the main advantages of the ebook is that it is low in cost. There are no
printing costs, storage fees or postal prices involved. Therefore, the prices can
remain low which is always an attractive proposition for the consumer and publisher
alike. The ebook is also less cumbersome, which makes it storage efficient. A
standard ebook without picture files takes up little memory and so a CD can store
an average of approximately 500 ebooks. This means there can be a wealth of
information and entertainment stored in an economical way. Also, the text can be
made suitable for all readers. Adobe versions have zoom features which can easily
enlarge images and texts for clearer viewing, but these often have page sizing that
does not fit the more portable screens and are difficult to adjust.

The small memory space also makes the ebook compatible with modern mobile
living. Ebooks are portable and can be used on iPods, some mobile phones and also
notebook computers. They can be read in low lighting with a backlight feature
which makes the ebooks fantastic for travelling and night time reading. However,
compatible software is required as the formatting options are quite vast.
Therefore, make sure you understand the requirements before purchase as some
of the equipment can be expensive to buy as additional extras. Also, battery life is
a factor when using portable electronic devices to read an ebook.

Many ebooks are packaged in bundles for efficiency, and as soon as payment is
received ebooks are received electronically in an instant. This saves costs and is
both time efficient and convenient. An advantage worth noting is that ebooks can
be written in Unicode which means that any ebook of this format can be changed
into various languages using simple commands. This has made them popular as prizes
for online competitions. However, as ebooks are subject to copyright, they cannot
be as easily shared as printed books. Some versions can only be downloaded to a
specific destination. Once downloaded, they are permanent but not transferable.
Check this before purchase.

Ebooks offer many great features. Firstly they offer a comprehensive content
search so you can find information immediately, making the ebook very time
efficient. Ebooks can produce multimedia effects such as audio and visual clips,
which enhance the experience. Some can even provide what is known as `scripting
opportunities` so that the reader can have a say in the outcome of the story.
Ebooks create interest for any reader, but can be a particularly good way to
attract disaffected child readers to this necessary skill. For people who already
enjoy reading, however, the ebook may prove less aesthetic to read.

Another advantage that is worth noting is the effects on the environment. Without
the use of ink and paper printing, mistakes can easily be corrected without any
further damage to the environment. Although the ebook can be printed if required,
this is a matter of personal choice. The ebook proves to be environmentally and
economically sound.

The importance of books and reading cannot be underestimated.

I have always loved to read. I loved to spend time at the library browsing books
and I loved it when the bookmobile would come around in the summer.
Books are not only a way of passing time but of immersing yourself in a story.
Getting to know characters and guessing about the plot are part of the experience.
Reading can transport you to different countries and cultures, or it can take you on
a great adventure. When I was growing up in the 50s and 60s we didn't have so
many distractions. There was no internet and no video games. There wasn't much
TV either so I think maybe more people in that generation were readers. Books and

reading have been a part of my life ever since I learned to read.

Learning is a significant process in human being life. It is self-

evidence that human development cannot stand without a good
learning. To reach that target, people always search the
appropriate ways. Besides, the mains important elements that help
people to learn are books and experiences because of their
unlimited benefits.

The book is a valuable source of knowledge that consists of

infinite benefits. It transports us into different worlds and
cultures, as well as, it informs us about ancient civilizations and
lore. In addition, it helps us to learn about new technologies and
literature. It allows speaking languages fluently and to
communicate spontaneously. Therefore, the book can be faithful
friend and the nearest into us which can guide us to how to behave
in our practical life.

Our practical life is also, in addition to books, based on experience.

This latter is a crucial element that assists to overcome obstacles.
Experience keeps our minds aware of the way to solve some
problems, for example, if someone re-confront a problem, it would
be easy for him/her to solve it. Experience also could indicate to
us the suitable method of living in our life.

In conclusion, learning is a strong challenge that requires patience

and efforts. Books and experiences are the best manners of
learning because of their vast importance and great advantages.
