Labour Party information 1 We are aware that you have downloaded a number of backup files (which were stored in sql format) from a website operated by the Labour Party. We understand that you expect to stage a public release of the information contained in those files through the Whaleoil website. As you appear to have converted the files into a more legible format, you will be aware that the files contain personal data, such as the names and contact details of individuals who have indicated an interest in the Labour Party and those who have made financial donations to the Labour Party through our online donation programme. Much of the information contained in these files is information by which individuals may be identified. The release of such information into the public domain is not necessary for the purposes of your blog and we ask that you refrain from publishing it. As you will also be aware, some of the information contained in the files is also personal information in terms of the Privacy Act 1993. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes names, physical and email addresses, other contact details, dates of birth, the fact and amount of any donations to the Labour Party, and any other information by which one or more individuals may be identified. Accordingly, you are on notice that publication of any of the personal information contained in the files will be unlawful under the Privacy Act 1993 and may leave you susceptible to further action under the Privacy Act from any individual or individuals whose privacy has been compromised by your actions. Please confirm that you do not intend to, and will not, release the personal information contained in the files into the public domain.
