A repeater does not amplify the signal, it regenerated the signal instead. 2. What do we mean when we say that a bridge can filter traffic? Why the filtering is so important? Filtering traffic means letting only selected traffic to get though, and unwanted ones to get blocked. Filtering is extremely important, both in home or business settings. It can block unauthorized/wanted access to your systems, improve performance, improve security. 3. What is a transparent bridge? Transparent bridge can forward and filter frames and automatically build it forwarding table. 4. How does a repeater extend the length of LANs? Repeater connect segment of LANs 5. How is a hub related to a repeater? An active hub is actually a multi port repeater. 6. What is the difference between a forwarding port and a blocking port? Blocking port is when no frame is sent out and forwarding port can send out the frame. Both is using after spanning tree. 7. What is the difference between a bus backbone and a star backbone? Bus backbone connect LANS in line while star backbone connects LANs in port. Bus can be use in both single-floor and multiple-floor building while star backbone use ing multiple-floor building.

8. How does a VLAN save a company time and money? VLAN is a good configuration for a company with two separate buildings. Each buling will get its own switch LAN connected bacbone. 9. How does a VLAN provide extra security for a network? It put the stations into groups, only the station belong to that group can access the information. 10. What is the basis for membership in a VLAN? Port number, MAC address, IP address, IP multicast address or the combination of teo or more of these.
