Preposition

of place is used to indicate the position of something. Can also consist of more than one word. Example of preposition of place:

Under, among, in front of, near, behind, in, by, beside, on, on top of, outside, on board, around, between, against, above, inside, at, etc

Beside

Use beside when there are only two persons or things involved. Example: I stood beside John.

Use

between when there are three persons or things involved. Example: I stood between John and Mary.

Use

among when there are more than three people or things involved and we think them as a group. Example: I stood among my friends and told them a story.
