CONCEPT
Knowledge Management is creation of new skills, capabilities, competencies and expertise, development & improvement of existing ones and sharing use of knowledge by organizational members.

Activities of KM
There are eight major activities that are comprised in KM: 1. Generating new knowledge 2. Accessing valuable knowledge in decision-making 3. Using accessible knowledge in decision-making 4. Embedding knowledge in processes, products, and or services 5. Representing knowledge in documents, databases and softwares 6. Facilitating knowledge growth through culture and incentives 7. Transferring existing knowledge into other parts of the organization 8. Measuring the value of knowledge assets, and / or the impact of KM

KM is different from Information Technology

Implementation of KM
Conduct knowledge audit to identify what knowledge assets the company possesses Identify information providers fro creation, acquisition and procedures for reprocessing Analyse to what extent existing knowledge can add value to the business and how it is used Obtain support from the top level management to provide cultural and technological foundation Standardise procedures to collect and represent knowledge in a form that can be stored, distributed and accessed Build knowledge architecture (data ware housing/ data mining) using collaborative technologies Develop effective feedback system
