A Debate to Remember

The annual debate contest final was conducted on 26th September between the Star and Moon team. The subject of the Debate was whether Science was a Blessing or a Curse. Probably because it was the last debate the school would see in a long to come yet that led the participants, organisers and the audience to coordinate excellently to make of it a day to remember. The programmed commenced with the brief speech by the chief organizer and senior English teacher, Mr. Risyam b. Rahman. He then introduced the topic and called on stage the captains of the Star and Moon team for the toss to determine which team would speak for or against the motion. The Star team won the toss and opted for speaking against the motion. The Moon team participant spoke very convincingly on Science as a blessing. He highlighted in- between peals of laughter and applause from the audience the leisures, pleasures of modern medicines means of transport and communication, surgery, agriculture, trade and industry that were all the gifts of Science to mankind. The Star team then took centre-stage control and speaking against the motion cautioned that man was increasingly becoming a slave of Science thus making more and more mechanical. The debate was concluded with our Principals speech. He declared the Star team as the winner of the day. He concluding message was that Science could bring heaven to Earth and if wrongly used it could blast our Earth to hell. Thus ended a great debate with the last and final speech of a highly dynamic Principal who was to retire the very next day.
