Question for critical thinking (Chapter 3)

1/86 Manager comments thirty-five years ago, young employees we hired were ambitious, conscientious, hardworking, and honest. Todays young workers dont have the same values. Personally, I disagree with this statement. We can not state that young workers today dont have the same values because it still depends on the work cohorts which are represented in table 3-3. It means that peoples work values are related to the period that they enter the workforce. Perhaps, todayss young workers still work hard, integrity and so on because there can be a competition in the environment that the more employees are best performance in the organization, the more they get higher promotion. More so, OB in the News stated that values were stable, however, it could be realigned because of the affects of the environment. 3/86 The author states that managers should do everything they can to enhance the job satisfaction of their employees. The way managers give workers opportunity to be satisfied in their jobs is very important, it encourages employees to achieve organizations goal effectively and efficiently. More so, job satisfaction is considered as an essential dependent variable. However, its hard for the managers to do everything to enhance the job satisfaction of their employees. Because people in an organization may

come from different country, so they will have various perspectives and interests. For instance, the manager builds a child care in the company which helps the employees to balance between work and life. In contrast, other employees may think that it wastes money, and it would better if the manager built a health care in the company. In conclusion, I think its too difficult for the manager to achieve all the employeess needs because everything in our life has two faces. 5/86 When employees are asked whether they would again choose the same work or whether they would want their children to follow in their footsteps, typically less than half answer in the affirmative. Personally, I think that peoples desires are unlimited, even they are in a good position, they still want better, better and better. Thats a reason why some people dont want their kids follow their steps because they hope their children could find a better job.
