Thursday March 31 2011

Dear Bernadette

The Foundation for Youth Development has touched the lives of many by providing pathways for hundreds of Kiwi kids to make good choices in their lives. This year, MENKS events will be managing the organisation of a Family Funday to help raise funds and awareness for the Foundation for Youth Development and their Kiwi Can Programme. We are writing to you to discuss potential opportunities for media sponsorship of our event. The Family Funday will be held on Sunday May 8 and will be a fun -filled day for children and adults alike. Our major target audience will be children aged 5 to 7 years old but there will also be activities for the adults to enjoy as well. Face painting, giant playgrounds, bouncy castles and rugby stars are some of the activities that will brighten up an ordinary Sunday and make it a Funday for families. However, the charitable nature of the cause means that we are working on limited to no funds and we need alternative funding avenues, such as sponsorship, to achieve promotional goals. We believe that we can offer Fairfax some key benefits from this partnership including, advertising, sales, naming rights and free entry for Fairfax employees and their families. Please find attached a sponsorship proposal, which will provide a detailed outline of what the sponsorship will look like. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me on my mobile (0273105865) or by email (mn62@students.waikato.ac.nz). I will be in touch to discuss any possibilities with you in the next few days.

Yours sincerely

Maki Nishiyama Financial Officer

Sponsorship Proposal: Event Fun Overview

Sir Edmund Hillary once said, it s all about the kids, and as one of the very first trustees of the Foundation for Youth Development (FYD), he too, along with FYD founders Graeme Dingle and Jo -Anne Wilkinson, believed in kiwi kids potential to achieve. FYD runs a series of youth development programs aimed at young New Zealanders aged from 5 to 18 years and seeks to inspire, motivate and instil confidence in the next generation of kiwis. The fundraising event that we will be holding will reflect FYD s values and objectives of having a positive impact on young New Zealanders, and will involve a Family Funday for children aged five to twelve years old (the primary target of FYD s Kiwi Can programme). A chance for the children and parents to have a fun day out and spend time with each other, our Family Funday will be a bustling activity filled day for the children with bouncy castles, face painting, competitions and story-telling. A major drawcard of the day will be television coverage of the event by popular children s television show What Now. We will also ask local celebrities and sports heroes to participate in our event. Hamilton is home to 19 primary schools and close to 10 000 children aged b etween five and nine years old; putting on the Family Fun day will hopefully let parents and children aware that FYD delivers programmes in the Hamilton area and raise funds to implement more programs and get more schools involved. Being a non-profit organisation, this event will primarily be a fundraising activi ty. We recognized that Fairfax Media is New Zealand s leading media company, providing newspapers to many regions and spotlighting community news . We also recognised that Fairfax Media act as responsible corporate citizens through sponsorship and coverage of sporting, cultural, artistic and charity initiatives in the local communities. As our media sponsor, your logo will be presented on our flyers and on banners during the event. We can also allocate a booth and provide volunteers to sell your publications as well as hand out promotional material during the event. This event may also be a possible story as FYD has been making a positive impact on many young children s lives in the Waikato region.

Target audiences
Primary school aged children programme. This is the primary target of FYD s Kiwi Can

Single parents One-parent families consist of around 22% of all family types in Hamilton. Also, if they are a working parent they will not have many opportunities to spend quality time with their family. Couples with children couples with one or more children make u p for around 40% of all families in Hamilton. Again, work commitments and lack of time means that weekends are usually the only times where the whole family is spending time together Grandparents This target group is relevant to us as grandparents may have visiting grandchildren over the weekend or have a role in caring for the child(ren) . Depending on age, this group is more likely to go to an event with their grandchildren. Whanau and extended family The family emphasis of our event means that we are also targeting extended whanau as these family members can have a major role in a child s life and do not have many opportunities to spend time together.

Promotion plan
Our promotion plan will take an integrated approach while trying to keep costs at a minimum. This approach will help us to reach our targets audiences through different channels. Television What Now, a popular children s television programme, will be approached to cover our event and although promotion leading up to the event may be limited through this medium, we can offer sponsors visibility of logos etc during air time. This medium will also help us to raise awareness about FYD as an organisation.

Radio We will also be approaching More FM for promotional support in the two weeks leading up to the event. We are hoping to enter into a sponsorship partner with More FM for advertising, staff and equipment hire. Print We have currently planned for advertising of our event through school newsletters in the three weeks leading up to our event. We are also currently seeking media sponsorship from a newspaper to assist us in promoting and publicising our event and in reaching our targets more effectively Online We will be advertising through the FYD website and various online event guides as well as utilising Facebook to create awareness of the event. Other We will also be handing out/posting up flyers to directly approach our targets. Another major element that needs to be taken into consideration is our guest appearances by local celebrities and sports heroes. We cannot confirm attendance yet at this point in time but we expect to have at least two local identities present. We are predicting that these guest appearances may also generate some publicity for the event.
