TIPS on Section A
Read the questions carefully Identify the type of composition. Spend about 10 minutes on planning or preparing an outline. You may use a diagram or a mind map for your outline. Do not use full sentences in the outline.
TIPS on Section A
Use all the given notes or guidelines. Study the given pictures or graphs carefully before writing. Each main point must be clearly stated and has sufficient elaboration to support it Provide some examples where necessary.

Make sure you know the formats of different types of composition well. Vary your sentence structure. Use appropriate style of writing. E.g. report simple and straightforward language, narrative more flowery language with the use of metaphors, simile etc.

Correct and consistent uses of tenses is essential. Write neatly and legibly. Work within the given time. Allocate at least 5 minutes to read through for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. Composition must be in not less than 120 words.

TIPS on Section B
You are advised to spend 30 minutes on this section. Read the passage carefully Read the questions and understand which areas you are required to summarise. Remember : Only summarise the required part not the entire passage. Only capture the main points, do not include the unnecessary details.
TIPS on Section B
Use own words but do not change the meaning of the passage. Replace phrases with single words to shorten a sentence. Use the same tenses as in the original passage.
TIPS on Section B
Leave out any questions or direct speeches. Only use indirect speech. Do not add own opinion or information and change the points in the original passage. State the number of words you have used correctly at the end of the summary.
Example
Summarise the passage below in two sentences. The Internet makes communication so easy that one gets to keep in touch with people no matter where they are. You can communicate with your love loved ones quickly and at a minimum cost through e-mail. Apart from e-mails, e-chatrooms are convenient too as you do not even have to leave home to talk to your family and friends.

Benefits of e-chatrooms convenient and easy Summary : It is easier and more convenient to keep in touch with your loved ones through the Internet. You could simply e-mail or talk to them in chatrooms.
TIPS on SECTION C
You are advised to spend 20 minutes on this section. Focus on the key elements of the novel : i. setting ii. plot iii. characters iv. point of view v. themes vi. moral values vii. language and style
TIPS on SECTION C
Choose the novel you know the best to answer the question. Do an outline. List all the points. Choose the most important points. Provide evidence and quotations from the novel to support your main points. Each point is written in different paragraph.
TIPS on SECTION C
The length of answer should be more than 50 words and less than 120 words. Do not memorize sample answers from reference or work books. Do not afraid to state your feelings and response if the question required you to do so. Allocate about 5 minutes to check and rectify any grammar, spelling and punctuation mistakes.

4. Themes : Main idea of the story. To get the theme of the story, try to answer these questions : A. What is the writers main intention of writing this story? B. What point is mainly stressed in the story?

5. Moral Values : The message or moral values that we can learn from the story. The importance of determination in ones life, responsibility towards ones family and own greed brings destructions.
