NEW SPECIES After last years initial discovery, it has been confirmed that a tree species new to science has been discovered by the Udzungwa Forest Project, during the latest field expedition by Dr Andy Marshall, Director of Conservation. This will increase the biodiversity importance of the Udzungwa mountains even further, and we hope it will help to advertise the importance of the forests. Now the tree just needs a name!

PEDAL-POWERED CINEMA A pedal-powered cinema was successfully trialled in a village near to the Magombera forest, where UFP is carrying out conservation work.

Andy has since returned from Tanzania and will be working on naming the species with other botanists from across the world.

The cinema was a huge success, with over 500 people coming to watch the Swahili film on forest conservation. Plans are underway to use it once a month in villages to promote conservation, with 13 different Swahili wildlife films to show. With the UFP project car out of action, the Kilombero Sugar Company, who own half of Magombera, will help transport the cinema around the villages.
